We booked a room at The Bateman Arms as we were walking the 2nd leg of the Mortimer Trail during the day. A couple of days before the owners kindly rang to say that the restaurant wouldn't be serving food as there would be a pig roast instead as there was a live band on that evening (which we were... A totally Superb Sunday lunch on 8th June at The Bateman for family and friends following a "Trial Flight" at Shobdon for the Birthday Boy! We visited earlier in the year for lunch and couldn't fault and this was our 1st opportunity to revisit. A warm welcome on arrival and no rush throughout and the choices on all courses were... More

We needed a short notice stay to attend the Hay Festival. Found The Bateman Arms on Late Rooms within half an hour's journey time from Hay. Easy to find, with a beautiful drive through the countryside. A warm welcome given, table booked for an evening meal and shown to our room. Beautifully clean, with good amenities including home made biscuits... More

My husband and I stayed here in January - booked a one night stay as a much needed breakaway from home. Booked an evening meal for 7 p.m. When we arrived for our meal we were dumped in the bar because the restaurant was fully booked. Meal ordered was not the meal that arrived, no apology! After waiting perhaps forty... More

Called in here one weekday lunchtime after a pleasant 2hrs walk in the area. We were concerned that we might have arrived too late for food to be served, but happily this proved not to be the case. We were greeted by a friendly and chatty lady and enjoyed the sandwich/baguette which were nicely presented and delicious to eat. Excellent... More

Excellent accommodation, fantastic and friendly landlord. We came up from Norfolk and they kept the kitchen open late for us, in order to have tea. The food was great!! Dog friendly which was fantastic!! A very warm welcome! Would highly recommend!!

We found the Bateman Arms to be a great pub of traditional character, offering good-value decent B&B accommodation, with fabulous evening food, all enhanced by the friendly and efficient owners and staff. We stayed two nights in a pleasant stone-walled upper-floor bedroom (the accommodation is all in a separate adjacent block), and dined in on both nights: once in the... More

Recently stayed at this pub/restaurant hotel and would strongly recommend it. The dinner was top notch and reasonably priced. Staff were very attentive and friendly and were very keen to know of any problems so they could look to rectify. This gave the feeling that they really cared about their clientelle. Room was in a separate annexe, which I believe... More
