The rooms are located across from the main building. Check in was easy...don't unpack you car as you will only walk back to your room. The double room was clean with a good quality bed and nice furnishings. The shower was a pain to use...but we managed in the end. There is an issue with noise as the smoking shelter... More

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay. The smoking shelters proximity to the rooms is sometimes a problem and the language that emanate from its interior can be a bit fruity. We are experimenting with Dictionary evenings to expand the inhabitants understanding of the English language in an attempt to develop a greater variety of descriptive words.... More

In the lounge bar there is a blackboard with a chalk map which illustrates where their locally sourced food is from. Great idea, all the food was freshly cooked, tasty and the breakfast the next day set you up for the day. I was on a National Trust mini tour with my parents. Both rooms were immaculate with appropriate furnishings,... More

This is a fabulous hotel, clean, comfortable and a pleasure to stay at. The cost of B & B was most reasonable at 60 pounds. The Owners and locals are very friendly. Talking to a few of the passing locals they voiced their appreciation of this hotel. We had stayed there 9 years previously and have always meant to come... More

We booked a room at The Bateman Arms as we were walking the 2nd leg of the Mortimer Trail during the day. A couple of days before the owners kindly rang to say that the restaurant wouldn't be serving food as there would be a pig roast instead as there was a live band on that evening (which we were... We visited earlier in the year for lunch and couldn't fault and this was our 1st opportunity to revisit. A warm welcome on arrival and no rush throughout and the choices on all courses were... More

We needed a short notice stay to attend the Hay Festival. Found The Bateman Arms on Late Rooms within half an hour's journey time from Hay. Easy to find, with a beautiful drive through the countryside. A warm welcome given, table booked for an evening meal and shown to our room. Beautifully clean, with good amenities including home made biscuits... More

My husband and I stayed here in January - booked a one night stay as a much needed breakaway from home. Booked an evening meal for 7 p.m. When we arrived for our meal we were dumped in the bar because the restaurant was fully booked. Meal ordered was not the meal that arrived, no apology! After waiting perhaps forty... More
