The Castle is a lovely characterful and very interesting place to stay, Philippa is very friendly and helpful, her enthusiasm for the castle and loving restoration of it is clear. We stayed in the watchtower which is beautiful and a real experience, although it has to be said is small with little storage space. The nice big comfortable bed ensured... More

We had just planned to stop here as a place to break up a long drive, but it looked so interesting we decided to stay 2 nights. Chateau de Tennessus turned out to be the highlight of our trip to France; a truly unique opportunity to stay in a very well-preserved medieval castle. My kids (ages 11 and 14) absolutely... More

Loved our visit to this medieval chateau, we stayed at the top of the tower in an enormous room, authentically decorated by the owner Philipa and family. Fascinating place, quiet location but local to some lovely chateaux and wineries to visit. Great breakfast, attention to detail was greatly appreciated (she even made my husband gluten free bread). Definitely would recommend... More

Nothing quite prepares you for your journey back into the past but it is an amazing one to take at this Chateau. When you drive up you really don't expect a castle with a moat in the middle of a field. We were warmly welcomed by our hosts and were shown all the amazing rooms of this fully restored medieval... Stayed here April 2013 but am relatively new to reviewing! Stayed here with all my extended family and the hosts were very accommodating (even laying on a buffet style evening meal and letting us use their rooms to allow all of us -we were a very large group- to eat together). The staircases are narrow so be prepared but the... More

What do you want to find at the end of a drive from the ferry? A warm welcome, a comfortable room, a well-equipped bathroom? Would rowing round the moat or raising the drawbridge be on the list? Perhaps not but these are but a taste of the outcome of the loving restoration of this castle whose delights one is now... More

This Chateau is amazing. Our family of four made the detour to the Vendes region especially to stay in an authentic castle. We had two rooms, although the owner Phillipa was kind enough to show us all of the rooms and I can vouch for every rooms uniqueness. There are winding staircases, tapestries, wall paintings and I could go on... More

Change your route if you have to but do not miss a chance to stay here. It truly is STUNNING, there is nothing like it anywhere else. For children old enough to climb the many stairs it is heaven, sleeping in a " princess bed", rowing round the moat, watching the drawbridge raised and lowered, looking at the lovely wall... More

Tennessus Castle was the first stop for my two sons (ages 7 & 11) and I on what was to be an almost 3-month European trip. There really could not have been a better way to begin this journey. Lovingly and meticulously restored and maintained, it's a marvel. The room was comfortable and, of course, quite spacious. The facilities are... More

Why the average score when it is an exquisite castle, in pretty grounds, with immaculate and tasteful rooms, a pleasant breakfast and a charming host? However, in the first hour, the chatelaine managed to offend both my wife and myself. By the next morning she upset our seven year old son, and by the evening our daughter (almost six) was in... We are grateful for this review, not just because it recognises the many qualities of Tennessus, but also because it gives us the opportunity to make clear our policy on having children to stay. We love children, and are thrilled to be able to offer them the opportunity to enjoy the castle, its many facilities and its medieval surroundings. As... More
