Mangrove lodge is a short distance outside stone town and hidden through the jungle on the coast. The couple who own it were really helpful in providing suggestions and organising trips for us which took a lot of the hassle and stress out of the trip. The lodge itself is on a very quite beach with white sand.

A very nice family run lodge on the beach in Zanzibar. The owners and staff are very friendly and accommodate your every need. Great views of bay from the dining area. Great sunsets from their beach. Good value for the lodging and meals (breakfast was included). They arranged reasonable price transport to/from airport, town and tours.

Positives: Excellent food throughout Quiet and relaxed atmosphere Great helpful staff and owners Lovely views over the estuary and good beach location the beach attendant was particularly keen and vigilant Negatives: Expensive and especially the airport transfer - all food and drink priced in US$ Need hard soles or footwear to go in the sea

We've just come back from a lovely week at Mangrove Lodge. Our hosts were so friendly and accommodating. They own and run a lovely lodge away from all the over development on other parts of the island. We really appreciated how they, and all their staff, welcomed us. Sharing a low key beach with the local community was a privilege... More

My three teenage daughters and I were greeted warmly by Marina and Haji on our arrival at Mangrove Lodge. We stayed in a large roomy hut, with beautifully made beds, a large fan and spacious shower room. All the staff made us feel very well looked after, from the incredibly smiley barman and waiter, to the beach attendant who kept... More

Absolutely wonderful! We enjoyed our week at the Mangrove Lodge and are happy to recommend it. If we were to run a little resort hotel, this is exactly what we'd do. To be clear, this isn't a big fancy all-inclusive. You won't find water aerobics, a pool, air conditioning, fancy high pressure shower heads -- and that's ok. You will... More

A perfect place with lovely hosts that make you feel welcome. This is a hide out spot where you can stay on your own and never have to feel alone! Tranquile setting in the forest with a lovely beach just a minute walk. Will definately stay again the next time I visit Zanzibar, will feel like coming back to see... More

Marina and Haji were beautiful hosts. I arrived by myself late at night, and they immediately made me feel at ease. The room was clean and beautifully decorated, with fresh flowers from their garden tastefully arranged on the bed. The breakfast was delicious and plentiful, with a wide selection of breads, as well as the grilled seafood dinner. I had... More

We stayed for 10 days back in August and had a lovely time. Mangrove is off the beaten track set on its own beach just one minute walk through the gardens. We deliberately wanted somewhere quiet after a busy safari in the Masai Maara and Mangrove suited perfectly. For the money we paid it would be hard to beat the... More
