We stayed at the Bull inn on a weekend break voucher. Impressed immediately as they let us book using a voucher for one night on a Saturday night (which many B and Bs don't). We were made to feel very welcome with both a toddler and a dog. Plenty of room in the room we were in for a travel... More

We were made to feel very welcome by all the staff. The setting is beautiful with the beer garden by the river. The food was delicious, obviously a lot of people agreed as it was very busy when we visited, but we still did not have to wait long.

We came to Bull Inn after reading a few reviews from the log cabins near by. Our first impressions were "Wow" the place is beautiful, views, location the list could go on. However after a very, very, frosty reception by the middle aged brunette behind the bar we were in two minds wether to stay or to leave, we thought... More

We visited this ancient pub for lunch after going to Newby Hall, the other side of Ripon. We had a done a bit of research and this paid off. It was the end of a Saturday lunchtime but the welcome was friendly and helpful and the food was so much better than your average pub lunch. As others have said... More

Inside the pub was busy so opted to sit out in the beer garden leading down to the river Ure.Lovely setting and garden is pretty well landscaped with nice flowers garden furniture. It started to rain so we moved to the covered area and were offered a blanket to keep warm.Thought it was a joke but not so took up... More

Many a pleasant hostelry professes to be a "riverside pub" and after an inhospitable ramble through nettles you may be rewarded by a trickle of water passing over mud and stones. The Bull Inn at West Tanfield is a truly glorious Riverside Inn. Its delightful garden is set right on the banks of an impressive stretch of a full blown,... More

It was something new for us, to stay in a Inn. We have stayed in hotels and B&B's, but it was our first stay in a pub and we very much enjoyed the novelty of being able to leave the comfort of the bar and not have to get a taxi home. A short trip up some stairs and our... More

Passing through the village while on our way home from Harrogate and called in for lunch. I chose a half pint of Black Sheep (was driving) and Steak and Ale pie with chips and veg. Excellent choice. Slice of hot pie full of steak, good thin pastry, lots of gravy, thick cut chips and 3 veg. Couldn't have eaten any... More

Been several times to sit and eat in the beer garden overlooking the river. This time had steak and ale pie. It was jammed packed with the best quality meat, and accompanied with well cooked chips, and great veg. Well done . Will be back

We visited this pub for a light lunch on 24th April being a family of 8 and a 6 month old baby. On asking if we could have a table for eight the girl behind the bar said." You people do like to give us problems don't you . not a good start. The lady who took the order for... More
