Many a pleasant hostelry professes to be a "riverside pub" and after an inhospitable ramble through nettles you may be rewarded by a trickle of water passing over mud and stones. The Bull Inn at West Tanfield is a truly glorious Riverside Inn. Its delightful garden is set right on the banks of an impressive stretch of a full blown,... More

It was something new for us, to stay in a Inn. We have stayed in hotels and B&B's, but it was our first stay in a pub and we very much enjoyed the novelty of being able to leave the comfort of the bar and not have to get a taxi home. A short trip up some stairs and our... More

Passing through the village while on our way home from Harrogate and called in for lunch. I chose a half pint of Black Sheep (was driving) and Steak and Ale pie with chips and veg. Excellent choice. Slice of hot pie full of steak, good thin pastry, lots of gravy, thick cut chips and 3 veg. Couldn't have eaten any... More

Been several times to sit and eat in the beer garden overlooking the river. This time had steak and ale pie. It was jammed packed with the best quality meat, and accompanied with well cooked chips, and great veg. Well done . Will be back

We visited this pub for a light lunch on 24th April being a family of 8 and a 6 month old baby. On asking if we could have a table for eight the girl behind the bar said." You people do like to give us problems don't you . not a good start. The lady who took the order for... More

It was a lovely day today and we went out to the dales looking for somewhere near a river where we could enjoy a nice meal. This pub hit the spot, right on the River Ure. It was a great find. The food was delicious and the staff were kind and helpful.

We were staying at The Old Coach House for the Easter weekend and were recommended The Bull (which is only 2 miles from there) by Amy, upon arrival on Friday evening. Not wanting to drive too far (after a 4.5 hour drive to Yorkshire) we decided to take Amy's recommendation and we were very glad we did. The food was... More

What a little gem this place is brilliant the food the atmosphere the room the people the whole package. Not to be missed even if you only drop in for a drink. It's no wonder it was runner up best pub in Yorkshire it should have won. One warning it is very busy but worth it.

We'd hired a small motor boat from Boroughbridge Marina (look them up!) for a few hours and wanted to extend our allure to the Ure by finding an eatery near the river following our trip. The water is not navigable for quite a distance downstream from The Bull Inn but the pub garden extends right down to the waters edge... More
