When my girlfriend saw a poster of Terra Khaya and Amathole horseback trips we had to go here. We were not disappointed as this is a great laidback eco friendly backpackers in the amazing little town of Hogsback. The double rooms are all located in different little houses, all with their own warm atmosphere and good beds. The rest of... More

Many people along the Garden Route suggested that I should visit Shane at his Terra Khaya if I wanted a different perspective on eco/sustainable Backpacking experience. It is a magical place where you get indulged by its beautiful view and quietness. The atmosphere is relaxed and you can go your way at the place. Shane has done a remarkable job... More

We were meant to stay 3 nights, but only stayed one night. The girls could not hack the compost toilet. BUt i think, they shuld def be more then 1 toilet for the entire place. Shane cooks some excellent supper. so definitely worth a try. Overall, if you ready to rough it out, its worthwhile. But if want something more... More

a great place to go for an escape into misty mountains, just be sure to keep the cat off your tent! (holes aren't great in the rain) the farm is beautiful and all the buildings, the outhouse (compost toilet) is smelly but the view is good. the kitchen is cramped but well stocked, beware a self catering fee (or pay... I was lucky enough to join the team at Terra-Khaya for their first ever Permaculture Course hosted on Chillington Farm and Terra-Khaya. I won't say too much about the actual course on this forum - but it was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. Every day was a complete inspiration with Terra-Khaya owner Shane getting involved in every aspect. The Farm and backpackers proved... More

Due to unforeseen circumstances, I had the pleasure of spending one of the most relaxing, rejuvenating and enlightening weeks I have ever had in quite some time during my stay at Terra Khaya. If the setting of the beautiful Terra Khaya property, set in the forest surrounding the quant town of Hogsback, over looking the stunning and beautiful Hogsback mountains... More

I've been to other eco-retreats, and they're all different. We live in a world of ever-changing transition, so no one can create a fully-formed ecologically-correct environment in a day or evne in ten years, but what's been done at Terra-Khaya in its short life is impressive. Not only is it car-free, electronics-shy, solar- and wood-powered, but its little cottagettes (my... More

My family has just had an amazing 4 day switch off at Terra Khaya - quite literally solar power and wood fired hot water and great great food. The experience was excellent with the owner Shane and his team really eco-conciously making a difference to the lives they touch. The girls loved every minute of their stay with lots of... More

Not a good two night stay. It was sad and ironic to arrive a place claiming to be eco friendly only to find that its spread out in a wattle and pine forest with the car park and its various establishments joined by poorly-kept and eroded muddy pathways. When I remarked on the wattels, one of the managers responded by... More

Terra Khaya is the most amazing place ever...... stayed for 2 nights here and one of the most amazing experiences of my life. We arrived at night after a long drive from Cape Town & Kysna and was greeted by Shane and his 7 dogs & 5 cats along with all the other wondering animals. Shane cooked up a great... More
