This hotel , of the few places we have stayed at in Hogsback, is the most professional establishment. We have stayed here four times this year en route to the Wild Coast. We love the location and quiet of this hotel....the gardens are beautiful and their own forest walk is a treat and right THERE to enjoy. And then the... More

Was a great little place to overnight on route to Port St Johns - Felt a bit like a time travel back to the 70's when one was sitting in the dining room - the food was excellent and extremely friendly staff! Dinner bed and breakfast rate was well worth it! Very well situated - lovely pool area and gorgeous... More

I stayed in one of the hotel rooms (as opposed to the s/c cottages). First impression was great: lovely, bright room, good sized bath/shower room. The second impression (just a second later) was the smell -- not so great. The room was very, very musty-smelling: it was really quite offensive. I asked others who were staying in other rooms, and... More

Pretty gardens and very friendly staff but the room we were in (#24) was airless and extremely musty. The smell in and from the upstairs floor in the room (2 extra beds) was really offensive and our sheets were worn with holes in them. The dinner was of such a poor quality that we didn't eat there on the second... More

So happy to get to the hotel after a long drive from the Western Cape. Beautiful setting, stunning gardens. We were booked into one of the self-catering cottages. They had mixed up our booking, but after moving some people around, we were checked into Unit 19. First impressions were very favourable. Beautiful cottage, nicely equipped. Bench on wooden deck was... More

My family stayed at the cottages which were spacious and clean. It is a great place to stay in Hogsback and we will stay there again. The Double bed was uncomfortable but this is the only complaint. The cottages are warm and are in a pretty garden. We had a braai a few times on the wooden deck and all... More

The hotel has a great atmosphere and good food. I must agree with the reviewer whose only complaint was the lack of adequate heating. The Hogsback region and village is a national treasure and provides one of the few remaining pleasant places to stay within easy reach of Fort Hare University.

The reception staff is most friendly and courteous, welcoming you warmly upon your arrival; the dining room is spacious and well laid out and the hotel is well-kept with beautiful gardens and comfortable accommodation. An ideal place to “get away from it all”, kick your feet back and relax! There are many beautiful walks through the forests, numerous waterfalls and... More

An Arminel self catering cottage is the only place we have stayed at on our last 3 trips to Hogsback. They are modern, spacious and clean. However, with their high ceilings and a morning temperature of 1,4 degrees, the heating facilities are just not up to scratch. With both of the entirely inadequate electric heaters on full blast all night,... More
