We were on our way to Rockcliffe - called in this pub for lunch. When we went in we were a bit worried, no one else in, pub cold As there was no where else to eat - we had to go with it The food was great, homemade, tasty and good value Overall, would return - hope others do... More

called in for a drink after walking in the area. New Abbey is very pretty, duck pond, Abbey, village square, 2 pubs! very pretty. The pub was friendly with locals and a friendly atmosphere. Although we didnt eat there, the menu looked very good, perhaps next time! the toilets need a bit of an upgrade! The village shop makes excellent... More

We stayed here for 2 nights while doing 3 of the 7 Stanes mountain bike trails. On the friday night the bar would have been empty but for us. The Latvian bar maid was good fun and the Landlord joined us later to add the atmosphere. The rooms and breakfasts were fine and our bathroom had recently been upgraded. There... More

Arrived from a rain-soaked golf course to find that there was no heating. A pathetic assortment of electric heaters was assembled but the electrical wiring could not stand the load and so the supply kept tripping out. Ran out of red wine during meal, cups and biscuits in room but no kettle, meal just ok but served on the coldest... More

We called in The Abbey Arms Hotel for drinks, the landlord kept us very entertained, the food was good and he was passionate about it. The rooms looked pleasent and clean but we were already booked in else where. The Abbey, after which the Hotel was named, is also well worth a visit, especially for the photographer.

Stopped in New Abbey for some lunch while on holiday, this hotel was appealing on the outside and the sign saying they were serving food was calling us in! Doors locked and no one answering the bell. If you say your serving food why do you lock the doors? Wont be stopping here for lunch again.

We recently spent a few days in this lovely part of the world. The hotel was comfortable and friendly and the breakfast was superb. Definitely the best scrambled eggs that I've tasted anywhere. In the evening, the bar was a pleasant place to drink and chat. We'll definitely be back to stay again. Sue and Robin Irving-Lewis

I use the Abbey Arms regularly as a B&B - in and out of season - on visits to my childhood home in Scotland. It is eight miles south of Dumfries on the Solway coastline dominated by Criffel, the highest hill for miles around with Sweetheart Abbey, a Cistercian monastery founded in 1275, only a few hundred yards away and... My wife & I stayed over night during a driving tour through Scotland. We were very satisfied with our brief stay - a non-pretentious pub which provided all we needed. The room was clean and well equiped, with a comfortable bed. Our dinner and breakfast were tasty and generous. The landlord was very helpful and knowledgeable with useful recommendations for... More

Our daughter planned this break for us two, our son and her and her partner. We had a ball!. The hotel was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was amazing. Gerry, the landlord, was eager to please and his staff were good and friendly. Our room was lovely with a huge shower room which looked brand new. The bed was as... More
