Nice quiet place. Hosts were very friendly & helpful. Rooms were nice. Except we stayed in an Eco Cottage which had pit toilets and we were not happy specially because there was no mention of it on the website. Overall very nice place just 10mins away from Nelson Bay

Went up to beautiful port Stephens for a few days with my wife a baby daughter as a spur of the moment thing . Found wanderers online and looked nice . The owner was extremely helpful and pleasant to deal with . We stayed in one of the tree houses . Location is very nice up in the trees and... More

We were not told about the pit toilet and there was no information on the website. We were greeted by a stinking, bug infested bathroom and a power blackout. After the owners instructed us on how to reset the power we settled to watch tv and enjoy the "platters" provided. We saw 4 chocolates, a plate of Jatz and Coon... More

We spent 3 nights in this quaint resort. The hosts were very friendly and extremely helpful. The cabin was very basic and small. Was not used to sleeping in a double bed and wouldn't have booked it if I had realised it was only a DB. The chest of drawers was so close I worried about hitting my head all... More

Our family of 4 spent 2 nights in this lovely, peaceful spot that is a short and scenic walk to One Mile beach. although we'd recommend the 5 minute drive over to Birubi Beach which sits at the beginning of the sand uses of Stockton Beach. The cabins are fairly basic but adequate and set amongst beautiful trees. We were lucky... More

Wanderer's retreat is one of the best places we have stayed in Australia. You are in the bush still 5 minutes walk to the beach. Very peaceful away from all the hustle and bustle of the city, perfect for those weekend getaways. Ian and Jane, the hosts, are simply amazing, they helped us heaps with very handy tips. Nelson bay... More

The hosts were great and very welcoming. However the website gives an appearance of luxury accommodation within bush surroundings. This was not consistent with the actual appearance which is basic and somewhat run down and in need of some repair and a good facelift. There were moments when the eco toilet emitted an odour. If it were advertised in a... More

We (2 adults and 2 kids) stayed in this place for 3 nights. We loved it from the first moment. The owners are very friendly and great hosts. We received a friendly introduction on the place and beaches to visit and the were so nice coming to our bungalow when they saw a Koala or a Kangoroo. Every morning there... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Wanderers Retreat is a property dedicated to providing our guests with the highest quality stay with modern amenities whilst maintaining a very low ecological footprint. We provide accommodation with ratings between 3 and 4.5. From 2 bedroom cottages, studio style Treehouses and one bedroom Bush Cottage (both with private spas) to the Beach House with 4 bedrooms and 8 person spa. Situated just 400 meters from One Mile Beach and 7 km from the marina in Nelson Bay. We are set in bushland within koala habitat and frequently have koala on the property. All cottages are sited for privacy and talking/seeing your neighbour is largely a decision you will make. Being an Eco retreat does not mean depriving yourself of the comforts of home, indeed in a lot of our cottages you will exceed or at least equal them. As for the unique nature of Wanderers Retreat? Come and experience that for yourself. ... more   less
