We stayed at this place because it received such a great write up in the Lonely Planet East Coast Guide. We do not normally stay at YHA's but the write up made it sound so charming we thought we would try something different. The owners were great and extremely helpful, however we did struggle with the insects, spiders, mozzies and... More

I loved this place. It was so cool! Everyone should stay here when in Port Stephens. And everyone should go to PS! lol Cory and Bo (and canine Bo) were the hosts while we were there since the main hosts were on vaca. They were great and Cory was very informative and friendly. The Bungalows are private or hostel style.... More

I went to Samurai Beach YHA with two 10yo girls for a quick break before school went back. What a great choice - the room was lovely (we had a deluxe double with an extra mattress at no extra charge) and very clean, with our own bathroom. I would recommend a car and plenty of mosquito repellant. Also, with children,... More

The Samurai YHA is set in beautiful lush grounds on the amazing Port Stephens penninsula. My sister and I stayed for 2 nights in June and went Whale watching and explored the sand dunes. The hostel is owned by a very friendly and welcoming couple, who did everything they could to make our stay enjoyable. The cabins are cute and... More

Great value for price. The owners (Mark and Sandy) are really nice people. They provide good facilities and services for free, such as booking trips for you, free sandboard borrowing, a pool table and a Wii for rainy days in a comfortable, unique shed. Really unique atmosphere, and the kitchen, despite being in the woods, had clean equipment like dishes,... More

The bungalows are nestled in a jungle like setting, which is super cool, and even the outdoor kitchen gets the odd visit from a kookaburra. Though not new, everything was cleaner than expected from a hostel in the jungle. Rooms were quite big and the beds comfy, kitchen well kept and stocked, fridge in rooms. The small pool was ok,... This youth hostel's location is really unique and just a short walk to the beach or short drive to the nearest town. The hostel is managed by a really friendly team and no request is too big. We stayed in the luxury cabins and you'd never have thought it was YHA. I would suggest that it is ideal to have... More

This has to be one of the best hostels I've stayed at for family-friendliness. It's located a few minute's drive from One Mile Beach, one of the best surf beaches at Port Stephens, and only a 15 minutes from Nelson Bay. If you have a vehicle, it's very central. If you don't have a vehicle, there are bikes offered for... More

At the beginning I only wanted to stay for two nights. After some very helpful information from Sandy (one of the owners) I found a job in Nelson Bay, just ten minutes away. I ended up staying at Samurai for more than a month and didn't regret one minute of that. The atmosphere was comforting and laid back which made... More
