We stayed in a few chateau/hotels during out three-week trip. If you're looking for a realistic experience, staying in a very old, grand house, this is the place. Besides the house's own history, of course, it's location near the D-Day beaches is very convenient, if you don't want to stay in one of the cities (Bayeux or Caen). The breakfast... More

This is the most interesting and unique place we have ever stayed. It is a ways from Bayeux, but the countryside is beautiful. The rooms were very comfortable. The history of the chateaux is terrific. James was a great host and the breakfast was simple but outstanding. I never remember returning from a trip and telling freinds about the place... More

The Chateau is beyond anything expected. The site is like a time capsule. One has few opportunities to enjoy calm, quiet and peace such as occurs there. James was a perfect host and I found the breakfast fit for a king. A wonderful way to begin the tour of D day sites. The local D road leads straight on to... More

I had researched so many hotels and chateaus in Normandy for our visit to France, and am SO grateful that my husband and I chose Chateau de Vouilly! James was so hospitable and incredible, and we could not have asked for a better host! Not only is this chateau seeped in history, the grounds are so romantic. It's "Pride and... More

We really loved our stay at Vouilly even if at the beginning we were a bit doubtful as the location of a chateau seemed to be "in a middle of nowhere" for us who were visiting Normandy not specially for debarquement. At the end of the day we found that it's location is one of the advantages- very calm rural... More

We were traveling with another couple and our trip to Normandy was focused on the 70 year anniversary of D-Day. Staying at the 1st US Army Press Camp - Chateau de Vouilly - couldn't have been more perfect. James was a great host and helped us with dinner recommendations and directions to surrounding towns. The gardens are spectacular, the house... More

Haven't stayed at the chateau but have picked up clients there. They have been pleasantly impressed. I have experienced the helpfull and warm welcome of Mr Hamel. The chateau was a war time station for Ernie Pyle, Hemmingway, kronkite...

We chose Chateau de Vouilly because of the strong reviews on tripadvisor. James, the owner is a wonderful host who took great delight in sharing the history of the Chateau and providing tips on restaurants and even where to park at crowded tourist sites. Every morning he served croissants and wonderful jams in the breakfast room, helped us map our... More

I just had my third stay at Le Chateau Vouilly. My first stay was in 2001 and things haven't changed much since. The place remains one of my favorite places in the world and I'll come back as often as I can. I won't re-hash all the details by previous reviewers, but will confirm they're all pretty much spot on.... More

During World War II, the Chateau de Vouilly was the accommodation for war journalists, reporting of the landing of the allies in the Normandy. Today, this feudal building is a great place to enjoy an overnight stay in the luxury of aristocrats. The rooms are huge and very beautiful, the garden is a wonderful place to walk and write a...
