We stayed in Chateau des Monthairons for two nights to visit Verdun and the associated battlefields. It is situated some miles to the south of Verdun on the River Meuse. It is easy to find and signposted from Exit 31 of the AutoRoute. We stayed in a standard room at the back (North facing) and over looking the farm. The... More

Fab place for an overnight on your way on the autoroute Paris to Germany. Just south of Verdun, which in itself is worth a stop. (WW1 memorials) Price is very reasonable for what you get. Chateau accommodations with a gourmet restaurant, which is excellent. You can order wine by the glass and the staff is very accommodating to your wishes.... More

Lots of attention has gone into the house which is beautifully presented and decorated. Our room was spacious and comfortable - and one of those places where the people made all the difference - attentive yet unobtrusive service. Our supper was first-rate. The grounds are extensive and there are signs of improvements being made, but perhaps a long way to... More

On our way to Germany, this was the perfect stop over, a beautiful manor house, with big rooms, very comfortable beds, and a sophisticated dining room with first class food. Two very small things could be corrected but they did not stop us having a great time there. First we arrived at 4pm after a non stop journey from England.... More

We stayed here because we were visiting the historic sites around Verdun, for which this is convenient. The building and its setting is very impressive. The building is mid 19thC and in its heyday would have been stunning. Around it are a chapel, and lovely old glass conservatory (now disused) and a massive walled kitchen garden. Many of the public... More

Our group of 25 was rebooked here after our original Verdun hotel went out of business! This is a large renovated country chateau of some 20 plus guest rooms on three floors above the main ground floor rooms. Rooms are renovated in the last 10 years and vary in size and amenities, but all bathrooms are comfortable and nicely updated,... More

Very convenient for a stopover en route to Switzerland, not far from Verdun. Not a "chocolate on the pillows" type of place, but an elegant chateau run in a rather old fashioned way with classic rooms and excellent food. Extremely dog friendly, with an extensive park for them to run off some pent up energy and they are allowed to... More

It was 75 years ago when, as a 5 years old boy, I evacuated from my native town of Epinal (Vosges) to the little hamlet of Genicourt-sur-Meuse. After an absence of nearly 64 years I returned to the area and to my surprise I found Genicourt unchanged - still with the old church of St Mary Madeleine perched on the... More

Eleven friends stayed here last weekend to celebrate the 80th birthday of one who lived near here in 1939, so I have, perhaps, a far more poignant view of the chateau than will others who chance upon it. The history surrounding the chateau - the date of construction, its occupation by German forces during the second world war, and its... More

If you like old buildings, the smell of old furniture, old carpets, old wallpapers and so on, you will love Monthairons. The most impressing for us was the huge park with its walking routes and the silence all around. The hotel is in no way ****. The restaurant is good and prices are correct, especially for wines. We loved the... More
