I don’t know how many times I said that in our 2 days at the heavenly Bellavista Cloud forest in mid-November. This was a highlight of our trip to Ecuador, which was amazing. Nestor was our charming and knowledgeable guide. We're not birders but the number and variety of birds was amazing. The food was a bit heavy on sweet... More

We stayed for a night in November, arriving in time for breakfast and leaving at 2.30pm the next day. It was a wonderful experience, and well worth the two plus hour journey from Quito. The last thirty minutes on an un-metalled road are quite bumpy, but the Bellavista minivan is perfectly comfortable, and their driver careful and competent. There are... More

Our least favourite part of our visit to ecuador! So disappointed. Your time and money would be much better spent in Mindo, watching birds and hiking on your own. The food is terrible, especially if you have any dietary restrictions (we were starving when we left) and the staff/ owners are extremely rude. The rooms smelt like feces and were... More

We had a 2 day excursion to Bellavista from Quito arriving on 15 November. We were picked up from our hotel early and arrived in time for breakfast. Our guide was Nelson who was incredibly knowledgeable about the flora and fauna - whether it was a plant, bird, spider, beetle, moth, reptile, or amphibian he knew his stuff! He was... More

We stayed overnight and would recommend this as it took us 2.5 hours from the old town in quito to get there. Also if you just do a day trip you only get the one walk, and the best opportunity to see birds Is the early 6am walk Saying that if your time is limited they have feeders at the... More

We stayed 3 nights but didn't arrive until 5 pm the first day. Had a wonderful fish dinner, but that turned out to be the best of 3 dinners. Breakfast was quite good with fresh fruit, granola and eggs. We hired a guide/driver to help us find and identify the birds - well worth the cost. Nesto took us to... More

We stayed only one night but managed to squeeze in three hikes in the beautiful cloud forest. We did miss out on not having time for the longer hike to the water falls but thoroughly enjoyed the birds and flora we did see. Our stay was in late October when rain at least in late afternoons is likely. However it... More

This lodge is about 2 hours from Quito. We had a 3 day package, so were picked up early am and arrived in time for breakfast, giving us 2 full days there. I'd say that was an ideal trip, although a very keen birder might want much more. The lodge is comfortable, not luxurious. We had a room over the... More

Even if you don't know much about birds you will fall in love with the humming birds, they are so tame they just fly around you. Richard, who owns this reserve, is a charming host and must be congratulated at buying this land and creating a haven for both flora and fauna. The accommodation is whimsical but cold, food reminded... More

We stayed in Aug 14 - us & our kids in their 20s. We took a 2 day trip from Quito through Llama Travel of the UK. Thanks to the staff and guides we learnt a huge amount about the forest & saw a great range of birds and insects. The food was far better than we expected and a... More
