I stayed at the Kingfisher Ecolodge for my last night in Laos in September 2008, and wished I'd been able to stay longer. It's in a beautiful location overlooking paddy-fields, and the rooms have a fabulous balcony with hammocks for chilling out. There is available a daily public transport service (Songthaew, i.e. open truck with rear benches) leaving Pakse at around 12:00am from Km 8 south bus station (Lak Pet) to Ban Khiat Ngong and Kingfisher Ecolodge. The time of departure is approximate. The same transport leaves daily Ban khiat Ngong to Pakse at around 8:00am.
The bungalows are the greatest I have seen in Laos! There is an exceptionally beautiful surise, if you get up early enough in the morning.
