My husband and I were very excited to spend time at Clonalis House. We had read the history of the O'Conor family as it related to the property and really looked forward to staying at a place with authentic Irish history. What a delightful time we had! Pyers and Marguerite are wonderful hosts. Our room was absolutely beautiful with lovely... More

After two days of airline cancellations the four of us finally arrived in Ireland and made our way through the County Roscommon countryside to Clonalis House: frazzled, disoriented and jet-lagged. We stepped into the imposing manor and, within minutes, all that was behind us. We were warmed by an Irish welcome, charmed by the elegant but unfussy decor and felt... More

When I booked our stay at Clonalis house, I was already charmed by the long history of the O'Conor family and the estate. Their website is full of fascinating information about Irish history, their family's genealogy, and old traditions and relics. The O'Conors are descendants of a long line of Ancient high kings and clan chiefs--so it felt like we... More

If you are looking for a truly authentic Irish experience I cannot think of a better place. Very frequently you can be disappointed because the web depiction of a property falls a bit short. Clonalis will not disappoint. The house and furnishings are the real deal...nothing "dressed-up" to impress the Disney World crowds. Marguerite, her Husband, and staff made you... More

Our hosts Pyers and Marguerite are genuinely committed to making your stay relaxing and for you to feel that you are a like a special family guest. The grounds are magnificent , the house is pure history and nothing is too much trouble for them. Things quietly happen to make your stay a wonderful experience. We will be back as... More

You will get a rare glimpse into the past and feel like you are part of history when you are a guest at Clonalis House. Set away from the normal Irish tourist routes in County Roscommon you will find an extraordinary house in a bucolic setting. This is an opportunity to experience Ireland's answer to 'Downton Abbey'. The furnishings of... More

Echoing what another reviewer has said, I am torn between writing the glowing review which this hidden gem of a bed and breakfast deserves, and wanting to keep it a secret so the rest of the world doesn’t find out about it! As a lover of all things historical, staying at Clonalis House was a truly incredible experience. The grandeur... More

Occasionally bus tours stop here, but we didn't stay overnight. This property is billed as "ancestral home of the O'Connors, descendants of the last High Kings of Ireland". The coronation stone is outside. The house itself is late 1800's Victorian style, replacing the original castle. Hostess was wife of present owner. No pictures were allowed inside. The house does have... More

We recently spent a week in the Garden Cottage at Clonalis. We chose it as a base to catch up with family in Roscommon and Mayo and also to do some sightseeing in the area. The cottage was spacious, clean, well equipped and above all homely. Compared to other properties we have rented in Ireland we thought it represented very... More

My husband and I spent an amazing night in Clonalis as a special treat. We were well impressed and appreciated the authenticity and old world grandeur of the castle.
