We did the 3D2N excursion to the danum valley field centre with danumvalley.info, also calling themselves INNO TRAVEL & TOUR SERVICES and sabah holidays. First of all, the expectation: We booked a "VIP deluxe villa" and knew we were not getting a five star resort but this is below the standard of backpacker if you ask me. The Valley: This... More

We had the most amazing time at danum valley! If it is primary rainforest your after I suggest you visit the field center. This is not for people who want a resort. This is first and foremost a research center. You will be sharing the kitchen and lounge area with the research scientists, they are not the friendliest bunch of... More

Truly one of the best kept secrets in the world. Danum Valley Field Center is not a resort, so for those commenting on price and lodging, remember this. The hostels are comfortable, giant rooms with 48 beds each, curtained off rooms and fans throughout. There are private rooms with aircon as well, closer to the dining area. You are paying... More

Anyone planning on heading over to the DVFC would do themselves well to read over the previous reviews. I just got back from a DVFC visit in early May 2015 -- here are my observations: - BOOKING AHEAD: I was one of the ppl that was able to just walk up to the office in Lahad Datu and say "I'd... More

Danum Valley is incredible and a must visit on any trip to Sabah. Organising a little difficult but persist and try to speak to the staff at the field centre office in Lahad Datu who are very helpful once you get hold of the right person. DVFC accommodation is excellent - do not believe the reviews in Lonely Planet /... More

We booked a resthouse (room with private bathroom), which was decent, but expensive for what you get. Bike and Tours (a travel agency in Lahad Datu) helped us make the booking for a $35 fee, but we probably would have been able to just walk up to DVFC's office in Lahad Datu (the office is in Fajar Center) and booked... We travelled with Sticky Rice and had one of their guides - Hati. We stayed in the VIP room and although it was pretty basic for the price you pay it was reasonably clean and comfortable and personally I think the upgrade was worth it for hot shower and aircon - although the power is off between midnight and 6am... Extremely poorly managed and dirty operation. Not enough food, which isn´t even kept warm. Be punctual to get enough! Store often closed during opening hours. Slept in a 48 dorm, where you needed to check with a torch whether there was a cobra beneath your bed, which was spotted lately next to the dorm.... We didn´t see many animals (only... More

Quite expensive for what you get. But cheaper than the lodge. I was staying in the dorm, without showers for 2 days. We had to go to the men. I was there during the weekend, no guides on sunday! If I knew that I wouldn't come in the weekend. Pitty. Food is really good. It's funny to sit between researchers... More

The idea of a Field Center to host researchers and help protect this environment is a nice idea, but I would not recommend tourists visit this area. - It seems poorly managed, with a lot of indifferent local people. - They miss simple things to protect the environment, like putting bird stickers on their windows to prevent birds flying into...
