My family and I visited the DVFC in the high season in the middle of August. I am writing this review because we had a different experience during the peak season that readers should take into account if they are visiting in July-August. First off, DVFC was relatively crowded with tourists. It looked like 15 or so people were arriving... More

First of all, I'm writing this with the disclaimer that the tours I did was with a family member doing their research there as part of their phd. I got to see things in the jungle that tourists don't see and that only researchers see, ie experiments, other paths, etc. With that out of the way, I stayed in the massive... More

This review is for everyone who read that horrible 'tourist trap' review. I visited DVFC in june-july 2010 as part of my univeristy environmental studies. It was the single most rewarding experience of my life and well worth the money. The only problem i had was with the malaria medication, but thats another story. DVFC is a research centre so... More

The rainforest around DVFC is so pretty! The restroom at DVFC is fine. The food is basic and the food for vegetarians is separate served. You can buy some soft drinks over there, if you didn't bring your own. There is an old fridge which you can use. We walked the Purut falls trail (14km return). And it was tough!... More

It is not easy to get to Danum Valley but is it truly rewarding. There are currently only two ways to stay there: the very expensive one with all nice facilities (BRL), and the DVFC. Keep in mind that it is a research camp. Yet they really are organized to welcome tourists, but it is expensive (even if there is... More

If you are reading this review, you are probably trying to decide if to stay in Borneo Rainforest Lodge or in DVFC. My answer is: stay in DVFC. You are probably going to Danum Vallay to see wildlife and to experience a primary rainforest at its best. And for this, DVFC is as good as it gets. Yes, BRL is... More

I should start by saying that I never made it to the center. I am writing this review to inform others that you must set up transportation in advance, and make sure all your plans are solid. Before I left my home base, I spent many, many days trying to connect with someone at the center. I finally received a... More

First things first - DVFC is a research facility, not a tourist attraction! So if you want all your luxuries then go to BRL. If you want the real jungle experience with like minded people then DVFC is the place. We stayed here for 5 nights in the end and it was worth every penny. The longer you stay, the... More

First of all remember that this is a RESEARCH CENTRE! Like many others pointed out brilliantly, this place's main purpose is primarily research. Luxury accommodation and servicing staff should not be expected. On the other hand you can expect amazing wildlife just outside your doorstep. Remember this before making up your mind about staying at the pricy Borneo Rainforest Lodge... More

The people in Sabah are friendly people and always wanted to help especially in the Hyatt hotel. The weather in Kota Kinabalu [KK] was very humid and the sun has a nasty sting when it is not cloudy, so be prepared for it. A good brimmed hat and long sleeves is absolutely essential in this region. KK city had a... More
