We travelled with Sticky Rice and had one of their guides - Hati. We stayed in the VIP room and although it was pretty basic for the price you pay it was reasonably clean and comfortable and personally I think the upgrade was worth it for hot shower and aircon - although the power is off between midnight and 6am... Extremely poorly managed and dirty operation. Not enough food, which isn´t even kept warm. Be punctual to get enough! Store often closed during opening hours. Slept in a 48 dorm, where you needed to check with a torch whether there was a cobra beneath your bed, which was spotted lately next to the dorm.... We didn´t see many animals (only... More

Quite expensive for what you get. But cheaper than the lodge. I was staying in the dorm, without showers for 2 days. We had to go to the men. I was there during the weekend, no guides on sunday! If I knew that I wouldn't come in the weekend. Pitty. Food is really good. It's funny to sit between researchers... More

The idea of a Field Center to host researchers and help protect this environment is a nice idea, but I would not recommend tourists visit this area. - It seems poorly managed, with a lot of indifferent local people. - They miss simple things to protect the environment, like putting bird stickers on their windows to prevent birds flying into... Around the wildlife centre are just a few path to walk and only two longer path to the waterfalls. We were there and was full with local people and the walk to the waterfall was too busy with locals, not nice. Wildlife is hard to spot in this place and not a good place for seeing orang-utan’s and hornbills. For... More

The Danum Valley itself is a truly unique place on the Earth, and I had an unforgettable time there. Its a primary tropical rainforest with an mind-blowing array of flora and fauna such as Orangutans, Hornbills, Pygmy elephants... the list goes on and on. Make the effort to visit if you're anywhere near the area and have even a vague... More

We had an incredible time here. We also travelled with Sticky Rice and had an inspirational guide in Bedley who had grown up around Mount Kinabalu, he told us many things about his family and his grandmother as well as being able to spot wildlife with great accuracy. He taught us to use our eyes, ears and sense of smell... More

Danum truly is an incredible place, the wildlife is unlike anywhere I've ever been! I visited on a university field trip, so can't comment on the organisation side of things, but the field center itself was amazing. The RAs (who aren't there to guide tourists, they help out with research) knew everything about the forest and the animals within it,... More

Guide yourself or come with a guide. Either way, days here in the rain forest are an unforgettable experience. To hear the briefing at the Borneo Rainforest Lodge you would think that no tourists stayed here. Indeed trying to book a room can be most difficult unless you persevere by phone rather than e-mail, or use a local agency. There... More

Our stay in Danum Valley was one of the absolute highlights to our trip. For anyone looking into staying at Danum, they will already know that there are exactly 2 options to staying here - either an incredibly expensive tour package at the 'luxury' Borneo Rainforest Lodge, or a self guided stay at the Field Centre. We were hesitant to... More
