We stayed in La Maison de la porte fortifiee in July for our friend's wedding. It was so delightful, the rooms are really lovely and they are cleaned every day, the breakfast is AMAZING and Carsten is such an incredible host we felt completely at home and were so well looked after. He was so helpful too, going out of... More

When we knocked on the door of La Porte Fortifiee, a head popped out the second floor window and said, "Ah Halina and Neil, welcome." Seconds later, our host Carsten, opened the door to a hotel like no other. Charming, exquisitely decorated sitting rooms, a tranquil garden out back overlooking the French countryside of Gers - all of this for... More

A home away from home in this quaint and beautiful little village in the Gers. The hotel owners, Carsen & Klaus played wonderful hosts offering an air of a home away from home. The rooms were beautifully decorated, comfortable and spacious. Breakfast was a feast every morning and the beauty of it all is that you could request what time... More

My partner and I debated about staying here, with me usually preferring the anonymity of hotels when travelling but the reviews were so good for this B&B that we decided to stay - and now we're debating as to who should take credit for finding it!! There are some who offer accommodation to make money and nothing else and accordingly,... More

We spent three nights here in the autumn of 2013. The house and garden are beautiful and we were very well looked after. Carsten is very hospitable, and spent lots of time making sure we were comfortable, and Klaus is an excellent cook. Thoroughly recommended.

We spent 4 days with Carsten and Klaus in this beautifully decorated and homely Gite! Our hosts were friendly, hospitable and ensured that we felt welcome during our stay. The rooms are spacious, beautiful and clean - serviced by none other than the committed owner Carsten himself! Not to mention the effort that Carsten put into planning a few sightseeing... More

What does the following add up to ? A medieval fortified hilltop village, extensive views of glorious Gascony (and, on the days when the heat haze backs off, the Pyrenees as well), the cleanest bathroom we've ever encountered, well conceived modern decor applied to rooms that still allow their history a voice, a terrace under a fading sun with fine... Having just returned from three days in Montesquiou, and Gascony in general, I can hardly find words to describe the experience. Just go there. Stay with Carsten and Klaus at Maison de la Port Fortifee. You will be happy you did. You will tell all of your friends, but you will worry that maybe you should keep it a secret.... More

Wow, 37 reviews and all of them 5 stars. Well, make that 38, because it is hard to imagine a more perfect stay. From the friendly greeting by Carsten to the lovely property, ideal location in a quiet village, memorable dinner and amazing hospitality, there is absolutely nothing to fault. My room (Abricot) was spacious, meticulously clean, tastefully furnished and... More
