Had a great time here alternating excursions to Playa Cocles beach(20 mins walk) and relaxing in the beautiful setting of the Lodge whilst watching out for wildlife. Irene was always ready to share her sightings and knowledge of the local wildlife.

Unfortunately we had a disappointing experience with Tucan Lodge. When we arrived at 8pm the owners were very insistent that they were not expecting anyone and that they had no rooms available. We got the impression that they thought we had just rocked up and were trying our luck. They denied any responsibility for losing the reservation so we showed... More

This is an amazing place. Irene and Wolfgang are very nice people and it was a joy to stay at their lodge. The surroundings were very tranquil and I wish I could have had a day just to relax and read in one of their hammocks. Irene cleans your room every day and provides fresh towels daily. Yes the cabin... More

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 5 nights. I wish we stayed for longer! If you are looking to literally stay IN the jungle this is the place. Your cabin will be right in the middle of it. Yet, it is still only a 10 to 15 min walk down a scenic dirt road to the main road which... More

We stayed here July 2013 for 5 days while touring Costa Rica. We are still amazed at what an incredible time we had here. It was the CHEAPEST place we've ever stayed in all our travels, but definitely the most adventurous. The cabinas are suspended right in the middle of the jungle. There are mosquito nets covering the top of... More

When thinking back on my 10 day experience at the lodge what jumps out at me is service. If I needed something Irene or Wolfgang seemed always to be able to help me get whatever it was. Including making a call to the US to help me with my credit and debt cards. I'm 67 years old and far from... More

Very nice location surrounded by many birds, howler monkeys. and more. We were close enough to the ocean to hear the surf. Irene took us around the property to point out the sloths that make El Tucan their home. Hosts were very friendly and helpful. Great value with reasonable prices.

Irene and Wolfgang run a wonderful little Bed and Breakfast. Their cabanas feel like they are deep in the jungle and have big porches perfect for whiling away a morning (and afternoon) reading and looking for wildlife. Hear the sounds of birds instead of traffic. Breakfast and bike rental on site is convenient. Irene could not have been more helpful,... More

We went to Puerto Viejo without a hotel reservation and found El Tucan accidentally. We followed their signs to find a simple yet beautiful hotel. It's not fancy but clean and comfortable. If you have lots of outings planned and don't want a resort setting, this is the place. The price was great too.

Very nice owners, nice place in a small jungle, very clean and charming lodges. Good breakfast. If you want to sleep till 07.00 a.m. in the morning bring your earplugs with you, because the jungle is alive, but we love that ! For sure we will come back.
