This is a lovely place in a great spot for hill top walking and beach combing, and it's within striking distance of Whitby. A warm welcome and a fabulous breakfast. Our party stayed in two lovely rooms, plenty of space. Clean everywhere, comfy guest lounge. Great little break over half term. Will visit again.

I tried to find a hotel in Whitby a fortnight ago as a last minute booking, but due to the run-up to Halloween Whitby was full of Goths. So, I looked for a hotel in Staithes - both these places were on our list to visit - and The Firs appeared. They had availability and Mandy, the proprietor, was very... More

Slightly disappointed given it had scored 9/10. We did book at the last minute so had a family room in the attic. Warm welcome and very good breakfast, but generally overpriced for the standard offered. Shower had a curtain round it - outdated and rather smelly and the hospitality tray was not the standard you usually get. Tired cake wrapped... More

Stayed twice this year, once with Grand children in a family room, once with friends/family. Great place for a sea side holiday and good walking, no need to move the car. The Runswick Bay Hotel just a minute away is a good place to have an evening meal, child friendly. Mandy is a lovely host and her home made cake... More

Just got back from yet another fabulous 2 night stay with Mandy at The Firs! We fell upon this excellent, friendly and welcoming dog friendly guest house a couple of years ago, and won't even consider staying anywhere else now that we've found it! Beautiful character building, well furnished homely rooms with excellent facilities. Nothing is too much trouble for... More

Very friendly and helpful owner and staff, very clean and well furnished guest house, plenty of character, the highlight being an amazing full English breakfast with smiling waitresses serving it. Free parking on site available. The scenery of the coast nearby is absolutely superb on a sunny day!

Friendly staff, and good amenities. Had an issue with our TV signal, but didn't matter as we used the communal area. Nice local pubs for evening food. Walk in shower helpful for those with access difficulties.

This small, well-run guest house offers more than B and B: the rooms are comfortable and well appointed, and the cooking stands out. My wife and I stayed for three nights recently (our second visit - equally good last year). The proprietor, Mandy, is also head chef. She has managed to create a welcoming, happy atmosphere (the staff seem happy... More
