It was the first visit to the GWA for 4 of us. We went on the recommendation of a friend and were not disappointed. The atmosphere with the log fire was very welcoming and so were the staff. Our orders were taken very efficiently and the food was very good. Main courses were served on hot plates, unlike some restaurants... More

Nice comfortable room complete with fridge, as breakfast doesn't start till 9 milk, water & juice are in the room with a choice of fruit or cereal. The food is very good if slightly higher prices than other pubs serving good food, staff helpful & friendly. Only downside is the locations ight next to the rail line so depending which... More

Two friends and I stopped here for a coffee stop with biscuit on a Saturday morning .We stayed for about half an hour. A visit to the toilets was ok clean and tidy. There is a garden at the rear +the Oxford canal is close by. Have not tried a meal here the menu looks good. The service polite and... More

The food is lovely here and the roast dinners particularly good. We have been visiting on and off for the last couple of years but during our last lunch the service was really bad. The food took an hour to arrive without any apologies from the staff. We will try it again this month and hope the slow service was... More

Stayed for 3 nights. Very appealing pub and lovely beer garden with super flowers. Accommodation good value for money, a bit chilly due to cold wet weather and lack of double glazing (only found the electric heater when packing up to leave). Wonderful meal on Friday night. Only downside of the trip was that we inadvertently left our rucksack in... More

We were welcomed by a very friendly and helpful barman who showed us to our room and took a booking for dinner. Dogs are allowed in the room, bar, and outside area but not, understandably, in the restaurant. Room one was large, pleasantly decorated, and the furniture was old but serviceable. The bed was a double. There's room for a... More

A very attractive village pub in a canal side location. The food was exceptional, good beer and very pleasant and helpful staff. The room we had was in very good order although a little noisy late in evening. The only criticism was that the restaurant/bar area and the rear garden were looking a little tatty and could have done with... More

But why do people feel that it is ok to sit fully across the bar and block all access? Stops people being even close to being able to order a beer. Sadly the garden was closed but we sat by the canal and watched the barges chug by. Might have got bitten.

We went to visit the canal shop in Aynho so parked in the Great Western Arms pub carpark planning to nip next door to the Narrow Boats shop and enquire about canal boating next summer. However, we felt self- conscious parking at the pub without being a customer so we decided to validate our visit and ventured in for a... More

This is my second stay at the Great Western Arms, and it lived up to expectations. The room was comfortable and warm. Food and service in the evening was excellent and the breakfast? What can I say other than superb, lots of choices, a very cheerful and helpful waitress. No complaints and no doubt will be staying again in the... More
