Askari is not a book of wildlife pictures, it is not a video, and it is not a zoo. Askari is real. The moment you arrive in Hoedspruit your amazing guides Katie and Joe will welcome you with open arms into the life at Askari. You will learn the vision of this benchmark reserve, and what may seem so simple,... More

Askari was a wonderful, one of a kind experience. Volunteering here at Pidwa was so incredibly humbling. It was so refreshing to experience the wilderness here as nature intended and 100% uncensored. Askari is a phenomenal experience because you get the chance to help something that is so much bigger than any one person. Askari and Pidwa is as real... More

"The amount of knowledge and experience that I have gained at Askari in 2 weeks, I could not gain from 2 years of college or university. Askari is hands-on and practical. Everything is done for a reason and that reason is conservation. Truly a benchmark reserve of not only South Africa, but the world."

I am still in awe. Volunteering at Askari was an experience like none other - so much more than just a Safari. The opportunity to take in the beauty of the African bushveld while participating directly to the preservation and conservation of that remarkable environment was so fulfilling and meaningful. The daily activities allowed us get on the ground, face... More

Going to Askari was probably an experience that will be hard to put into words. They really get you involved with the reserve and actually make you feel like you are truly making a difference! Every day you are out first thing in the morning, and your days are either spent admiring lions, elephants, or other wild exotic animals, or... More

My time at Askari was a life-changing experience in the most positive way possible. Every day I felt so alive and a part of something so much bigger than me or anything else I’d ever been part of before. Joy, peacefulness, teamwork, safety, excitement, and hope were everyday emotions/feelings. Every day is a totally new and unpredictable adventure and everyday... More

I can't begin to describe the wonderful time I had at Askari, the staff & guides are so lovely & very welcoming. The accomodation is fantastic & well kept. And the animal sighting, well, wow, what can I say, we had amazing animal sightings & you get so much closer to the animals than you would on regular safari. Askari... More

I had the opportunity to take some time off work and finally fulfil a dream to live in the wild for a month. I was recommended Askari by a friend – and I’m so grateful to her that she did. I had never volunteered in this way before, so really didn’t know what to expect. Katie was incredibly helpful answering... More

"Askari,” they tell us, is a term for young male elephants who, upon reaching 12 years of age, venture out alone for their maternal herd to join up with old experienced bulls in order to learn bush techniques these wise older bulls have spent their entire lives perfecting. As a one month Askarian, the parallel now seems almost uncanny. Here... More

Askari is a wonderful initiative on a beautiful reserve. Askari offers you an amazing opportunity to see and learn everything about conservation. Every day brings something new, exciting – you’ll never know what you’re going to get. The respect for mother nature – the wilderness, bush and animals is the most important thing on the project and if you didn’t... More
