We stayed in August at this Relais & Chateaux property. We had a lovely third floor suite overlooking the ocean with a small balcony. We found it extremely comfortable. The staff was warm and friendly. And they were eager to make your stay a comfortable one. The staffed worked very hard, but always had a smile on their face, no... More

First we got told that we had been upgraded and got a nice room with see view. Then a vitrine door glas window broke due to the wind from an open window. So sadly we told the staff and got downgraded to a room with view of the street and could see the cars passing by laying in bed. This... More

We visited, out of season, this very imposing hotel. We were the only guests but very well looked after by a charming young lady. We caught them in between the end of season and Christmas. The restaurant was closed but a very good restaurant was recommended in La Baule. The rooms had magnificent views and were beautifully decorated.

This hotel was one of the best we stayed in during our month in France. The service was impeccable. The room was lovely with a gorgeous view of the ocean and the hotel garden. The owners and staff ensure that every detail is taken into consideration. If your in this area do not miss the opportunity to stay here. The... More

Located on a headland with rooms facing over the Bay of Biscay. The Old Fort is the perfect place for a relaxing break with a superb restaurant, fantastic rooms and it's own outdoor swimming pool and sun terrace. They even provide bikes which we used daily for the 15 minute cylce to Le Croisic

We are used to Relais & Châteaux properties, so expectations are always quite high. Le Fort de l'Ocean managed to exceed such expectations along several dimensions. First, the location is quite spectacular and special, in the middle of the "wild coast" and the view from the rooms is always extremely refreshing. The rooms are very nicely decorated and well equipped.... More

A tiny hotel in total number of rooms, but our room was spacious and supremely comfortable, and the staff were some of the best we have met in France. Nothing was too much effort for them. The food was first class - we ate in the restaurant for 5 nights - and the chef can arrange for surprise menus too!

The drama of this oceanside location (see photos) – formerly a fort -- is unmatched by any hotel/ restaurant site we know of except perhaps Harbor House, in Elk, California. The hotel (****) is very fine -- see picture of our room, overlooking the ocean -- and the restaurant (where we dined only one night or our two-night stay) is... More
