For business purposes the past 23 years, I have spent many a night in the town of Piet Retief. In this town I have slept and enjoyed the hospitality of most of the "top" B&B's and lodges. Welgekozen was the lodge I enjoyed the most. The architecture of this lovely lodge is stunning, set on well maintained grounds. The rooms... More

This was a convenient overnight stop en route to Richards Bay. Easy to find. We were given a "route march" tour of the lodge by Bob (maybe because the soccer was on). The room was a good size and clean. No bath, but large shower. Unfortunately, we couldn't explore the grounds as there was a wedding in progress. Being a... More

We stayed here for an overnight stop between Durban and White River. The hotel is ideally located. The room was a good size, very comfortable and very good value. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful.

This was a good choice as a stop over on the way to or from the Mapumalanga. The lodge is an attractive Cape Dutch styled building with pretty and spacious grounds. The room we had was modern well appointed and very clean. This is a well run establishment and the location near the N2 shouldn't put travellers off who are... More

Although the rooms are quite nice and they are the only ones who got wifi in town, there are some con's with this lodge. The first one is the proximity to the N2 and a Sason petrol station: Every night, a flock of trucks park at roughly 50 meters from the rooms. The noise at night is too much for... More

Spent a number of weeks on business in October and November 2012. Spotless and spacious rooms with WiFi and DSTV. Rooms are well appointed, lacks nothing. Friendly staff and management, nothing is too much effort. Excellent dining room and meals, good cook. Well stocked bar, good place to entertain colleagues and meet fellow travelers and locals. Pool and grounds are... More

We just stayed there for one night. We had bookings for 5 rooms and they could only provide us with 4 which was inconvenient as we were all travelling on business and no one prefers to have to share a room with a colleague after a long days work. In any case, they got us another room before we even... More

Booked two rooms in the guest-house for the family. Arrival all our detail were at hand, with no problem checking in. Outstanding Dutch style building and well kept garden. Son enjoyed the grass. The swimming pool was clean and well maintained. Looked like the best choice in the town. We were not disappointed as rooms in the main house were... More

Like many before us, I suspect, we identified Piet Retief as a good halfway point between the KwaZulu Natal coast and Johannesburg, splitting an eight or nine hour drive over two days. Welgekozen looked like an interesting place to stay. Attractive building and grounds. Looked like the best option in the town. We were not disappointed. The hotel is a... More

I booked a 2 night stay for a weekend in February as my husband and I were going to run a marathon there and we had previously stayed there. Unfortunately the marathon date was changed and I cancelled the booking as we had other commitments that weekend. I cancelled the booking 6 weeks before the actual date which was well... More
