we booked in to stay for 4 nights, but left after one, as it wasn't quite what we were expecting. the grounds are lovely however the cabanas or "restaurant' are not on the lake as we expected but a bit of a walk away. the lake access is quite rocky as apposed to some other places where it's a soft... We stayed in villa Ecotucan and enjoyed a walk through the nature and a sunrise kayaktour. The walk was very interesting. Jaqueline tells a lot about the life there and shows a lot of things you would not see by your own. The kayaktour was amazing. It was not very exhausting and the environment is so beautiful and quiet. Just... More

This was our first time visiting Laguna Bacalar, and we loved this place. Everyone was friendly and inviting, the food was great, the grounds were beautifully planted, and the cabanas were spacious, clean, and comfortable. It was a bit rustic, but that was exactly what we were hoping for. We went on a kayaking tour of Laguna Bacalar with Gunnar... More

we stayed at villas ecotucan with our 2 young kids for 3 nights in february 2014. first the good stuff - its very pretty, the gardens are lush, beautiful and full of wiildlife, the cabanas are spacious, characterful and nicely spaced out so as to feel private and secluded. you can paddle on the lake with the kayaks, and watch... We don't expect luxury in the middle of a jungle, but this place is really spartan. Good that we brought flashlights, lighting is sparse. Rutty, pot holed, single lane dirt road of 1 km to get to hotel. Homelike prepared dinner was good.

I stayed for about a week at Villas Ecotucan recently and overall, it was a disappointment. There is so much potential here, and it could be much more comfortable and inviting with just a few inexpensive updates. For example, the stairs from the water up to the dock are extremely slippery and dangerous (saw one little boy fall). There were... More

Really liked this place. Set in a very remote location next to a lagoon it was the perfect place for a few days. The staff were brilliant and attentive whilst the accommodation was also of a very high quality. Individual bungalows are spread out throughout the site providing lots of privacy. The bungalows themselves are also really nice. Made of... More

Great place to stay in the jungles by the lagoon. Very close to the town. For those without a car there is a restaurant near by. This is not a place for those expecting hotel amenities and services. Cabanas are big but the beds are very basic and not comfortable. Electrical sockets in the rooms are 12V. There is no... More

This place is unique. The access is relatively easy, just on the side of a main motorway (small sign). But don't be confuse, you will have to go for a good couple of kilometers into the jungle before reaching the cabañas (such a fresh air!!). Nights are amazing, good food in the restaurant, and the sounds of the animals/insects are... More

Yes, it's a lovely location on the lake, and the host (Jacqueline) is very friendly and helpful - but this is all that this accommodation has going for it. Sadly eco friendly in this instance = no amenities and no comforts. The room is one of the most basic I have come across (even compared to extensive travel in the... More
