Simply amazing. The fact that rooms don't have TV and a telephone makes it even a better experience. If your looking for a peaceful place near an unpeacefull city like Kandy this is it. The only negative thing I can say about the place is that the way to get there is awful.

Thank you for yet another kind and most positive review of Clingendael. Your input remains such a motivator for our team members to up their game even more in order to ensure that our clients will continue to enjoy the Clingendael Experience. This is a beautiful hotel, old colonial house with fantastic staff and the most gorgeous views. We stayed for 2 nights and used it as a base to visit Kandy. It was pitched to us as a Kandy hotel but you should know that it is at least 40 minutes outside of Kandy so if you are looking for something... More

We thank you kindly for your 5 stars review of Clingendael. We welcome yourrecommendations. We have taken on board your comments about expanding our menu card with additional traditional Sri Lankan dishes and this morning discussed such with our General Manager. Appropriate action has since been taken. We hope to be able to welcome you on a next visit to... More

We booked Clingendael as a stop off to see Kandy and break up the journey between Dambulla and Yala National Park. We loved it here so much that we never made it to Kandy in the end. The staff are amazing and couldn't do enough for us, but without being in our face or making us feel uncomfortable. The food... More

We have never stayed in a hotel like this before. This is a lovely old style bungalow in a wonderful setting with lovely views. Our room the 'red room' was at the front of the building on the ground floor with the veranda outside. It is one of five rooms so as you would expect the service is persoanl and... More

Thank you for this 5 stars review. We aim at providing a heaven of peace and tranquility in a busy country. It is indeed some 20 km from Kandy to Clingendael. The vast majority of comments that we are favoured to receive from our Clingendael clients is that they revel in the privacy and the atmosphere of colonial splendour. As... More

Old colonial style house with 5 luxury suites and magnificent views. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff, or the Manager Anne-Marie. For golfers its a perfect location and you can even borrow the hotels golf clubs and get driven to the superb Victoria golf club in the mini moke! (Only 3 mins away) Menu changes daily, and is... I guess we were just lucky chosing Clingendael. We were looking for somewhere nice as a base to watch some Cricket at Pallekelle, and stumbled across it, not knowing that it was perfectly located for the Cricket ground, the right side of Kandy. I have to confess to being somewhat nervous on the way in, as we drove on numerous... More

For clients who wish to stay in a wonderful Colonial home and feel as though they are re-living the Days of the Raj with all mod cons, this is the place. There are only five rooms here. The Master Suite lies upstairs and is woody and large. Close by is a lovely suite with a massive bedroom. The Red Room... More

Situated in the grounds of the Victoria golf club, but placed high above it with spectacular views of the valley below, this small boutique hotel has only 5 rooms so you will never be disturbed by hordes of other guests. Owned by a Dutchman and managed by a Swiss lady called Anne Marie this exclusive hotel runs on oiled wheels.... More

We are in the hotel business and as such, are fortunate to have stayed in many luxury properties around the world. This was our first trip to Sri Lanka, organised by Sri Lanka in Style, who did a great job. It was a family holiday with our children aged 8, 11 and 13. Clingendael was by far the best hotel... This newly built small hotel, about 25 minutes outside Kandy, is kitted out with the original furniture and accessories from a 200 year old Dutch colonial house. It is in a lovely elevated position and our room was very comfortable and homely, and the staff are eager to please. Unfortunately, the food was mediocre.
