The British owners of the Ellerton have managed to hang on to the fine sense of service that is traditional and so prevalent throughout Sri Lanka. The staff were all courteous, warm and helpful. Our room was very comfortable and well-appointed. Breakfast were good although the dinners were perhaps a little restricted in their range. This hotel is especially attractive... More

A welcoming hotel with the most incredible views. Very colonial feel to this place and it is decorated to suit the period. We stayed in one of the bungalows which was wonderful. The staff are attentive and helpful. Good library, tea and coffee available to make throughout the day. Great food, comfortable beds, amazing location......what's not to like!

We stayed here as a special birthday treat for 2 nights. The owners were very easy to communicate with and offered us a generous 20% off the normal price as we were travelling as part of a group. My wife & I stayed in one of the self-contained garden rooms with private balcony, which is quite possibly the nicest room... More

We are very pleased you enjoyed your stay at Ellerton, and particularly that you were so enamoured with one of our two new Garden rooms. However, I'm sorry that you felt the meals were not fantastic value! Of course breakfast is included with the room charge, but to respond in terms of dinner, we charge US $30 per person –... More

This was the first place we stayed on holiday but it still sticks out as being a wonderful hotel. It sits in the hills around Kandy, approximately a 30 minute drive away. The rooms, service and food were all fantastic and I couldn't recommend it more highly. If you are in to curry, there are a plethora of different varieties... More

This was one of the best places we stayed at in our tour of Sri Lanka. Access to it is an unpleasant experience (the road surface seems to range from bad to appalling). However, that is not something that you can blame the proprietors of the hotel about. The location is absolutely stunning. The views are fabulous, it being in... More

Thank you very much for the nice things that you write about Ellerton, and we are very pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us. Quite reasonably, you mention the road, and I thought it worth responding to that. To be precise, Ellerton is 3.5 km up a Hill from the good main road which goes from Kandy up to... More

This boutique hotel was once a tea planters cottage and is high up in the hills just outside Kandy. The rooms are large and very comfortable with period furniture. There is a relaxing veranda to soak up the scenery or if you feel energetic there is a swimming pool. Ben is a black labrador and is very friendly. Meals are... More

Scenic location with spectacular views over the hills. 45 minute drive from Kandy and you do wonder where you are going but absolutely worth it. 8 bedrooms with the character and tranquillity of colonial days. Wonderful gardens and infinity pool only a few steps from our extremely comfortable Valley room. Just the perfect place to relax and enjoy a walk... More

The first thing I will say about this amazing place is the road leading to it. Now, this isn't the hotels fault, but, the road leading up the mountain is in a serious need of repair, however, once at the top of the hill you will be in for a treat! Set at the top of a hill, overlooking a... More

Is there a better place to drink a gin and tonic as the sun goes down? Yes, the road is bumpy, but good things don't come easily. This place has a very special feel about it. The room was cool and comfortable, the food superb, wonderful design and decor, and the staff were just what we like - unobtrusive but... More

This is a small colonial bungalow estate run by an English couple. Our garden room was lovely with a fabulous view down the valley. All staff incredibly friendly and helpful. Almost exclusively English guests here and there was a certain Englishness here about the feel of the place. Gardens are beautiful and surroundings stunning. Up in the hills so a... More
