This is the sort of place that helps one understand why colonists are so reluctant to abandon their colonies - life for the privileged is just so good! One gets a glimpse of this from the terrific hospitality, beautiful furnishings, stunning gardens, luxuriant views, and terrific service in the home of a former tea estate manager. Every room is filled... More

Charming owners and staff and excellent food. Perfect location for visiting the Botanical Gardens at Peredinaya. Also very easy transfer from Gampola station where we arrived having done the hill country train journey from Haputale (5.5 hours of beautiful scenery). Lovely view from the Valley Rooms. Generally a relaxing and peaceful stay - we wished we had been staying a... More

As other reviewers have implied, Ellerton Bungalow is a regular on the schedule of one particular UK travel agent. This means that the clientele is mostly British and mostly wish they could stay longer than they were booked. Actually we did, changing our itinerary to enable this, such was our pleasure at the welcome, the room, the service, the garden,... More

We stayed at this property for 2 nights during our 2 week tour of Sri Lanka - we wish we could have stayed longer! We were warmly greeted by the reception staff, the manager and the two (well-behaved) dogs and given a tour of the bungalow. A beautiful house with some lovely communal areas, both indoors and out. We stayed... More

This was our first visit to Sri Lanka. Our stay at Ellerton was wonderful. We were made to feel so at home and the ambience is of a luxury private residence rather than a hotel. The airy indoor spaces or the verandahs are perfect for relaxing with a sundowner before dinner outdoors. The staff are very friendly and helpful and... More

My husband and I have just left Ellerton after a 2 night stay and all I can say is, I wish we had stayed longer! When we were arrived we were greeted by the owner and lovely staff who brought us tea and cake in our room after our long journey, it was great. All your drinks are included whilst... More

We stayed at Ellerton as our first stop on our tour of Sri Lanka. It was like being at someone's home. It was such a shame we did not get time to use the lovely pool as were too busy touring. The food was excellent and they were most accommodating with our dietary requirements. We had two rooms in the... More

Amazing location in the hills outside Kandy, a 35-40 min drive from the latter. An oasis of tranquility with beautiful surroundings and a very relaxed atmosphere. Breakfast and dinner were great (we were half board) and all local alcoholic drinks were complementary throughout our stay. Staff very helpful and friendly, including the house dogs! Only regret is that we didn't... More

Beautiful place, brilliant hosting, well maintained and with a lovely history. The view from the pool is amazing and the rooms large and comfortable. We visited the recommended tea factory which was not only very real (not too commercial) but also very informative. Can't recommend this place enough to anyone thinking of visiting Sri Lanka

This small hotel was like stepping into a time machine and ending up in 1920's Ceylon! Having travelled to several Sri Lankan hotels this was a welcome change from large complexes to an old tea plantation house in the hills above Kandy- 45 minutes drive away- with wonderful views. Staff and onsite chef are excellent with a choice of meal... More
