I stumbled upon this great place a few years ago while chasing the Tour de France. The rooms are beautiful, each one slightly different than the next, but with equal amenities. The grounds are perfect for a walk, yoga or run and the swimming pool is perfectly crisp. The Bike: I'm an lifestyle cyclist (love to ride - love to... More

My week at Le Madelene was an experience of a lifetime. I was there in May for a week of plain air painting. Painting was only part of the pleasures. The charm and history of this beautiful building was an unexpected delight. Jules and Phillip, with their quiet presence were the perfect hosts. They were both so very good at... More

I tsayed for a week on a painting course. The property is exquisite and very goof for the soul. The lovely hosts provided food and wine to die for. I have been trying to think up excuses to go back - and I shall be back next year.

La Madelene is a beautifully decorated abby rebuilt with modern plumbing, exquisite gardens, superb food and outstanding wines. Hosts Jude and Philip Reddaway are wine and food experts who serve delicious, well-prepared Mediterranean food with exquisite Rhone wines. The rooms are large and exceptionally comfortable. Both times I stayed there, I had a bath with a rain forest shower. Seasonal... More

I was also fortunate to be part of a Julian Merrow-Smith painting workshop that stayed there this past summer and I agree with everything that's been said. The hospitality of Jude and Phillip is second to none. They worked tirelessly to make us feel at home. La Madelene is in a beautiful area surrounded by orchards and wineries. My room... More

My husband and I spent a week at La Madelene. We went as part of a painting workshop with Julian Merrow-Smith. Now we would return to La Madelene for any reason we could find! We had no advance idea how fortunate we would be that the workshop participants housed, wined and dined at La Madelene. The innkeepers, Phillip and Jude,... More

A Week in Paradise I stayed at la Madeliene with a group of about a dozen. Each room in this former 12th century priory had it’s own charm and history. Looking out of our window (through the yard-thick stone walls) at the valleys and mountains of Provence was nothing short of spectacular. The setting allowed us all to come together... More

Being part of a group of painters on a painting holiday run by Julian Merrow-Smith in mid-July, we had the pleasure of staying at La Madelene for a week. The setting is magical (a car would be a recommendation as it is a beautiful area to be explored...gorgeous little villages/towns not far away), the accomodation luxuriously elegant (fine percale linen,... I was lucky enough to stay at la Madelene for a week this past summer, and it was perfection! Jude and Philip wined and dined us, even accomodating my gluten-free diet at every meal! As my group painted the landscapes surrounding the beautiful old priory, Jude worked her magic in the kitchen, creating deliciously fresh, locally sourced gourmet lunches and... More

From the short trip from Avignon, through the vividly coloured landscape of Provence to the crunching pebbles of the driveway of La Madelene under our wheels. It was a wonderful arrival for this excited albeit weary traveller. Stepping inside this 13th Century priory exceeded any preconceived ideas I had of La Madelene, finding a boutique interior, magnificent room with pristine... More
