I have stayed here before whilst touring the AEF battlefields. It is clean and friendly. It might be a problem for anyone with physical disabilities because there is no lift The brasserie at the front serves good food and there is an acceptable pittza house across the Square. At €60 per night it is good value

Like other reviewers we use this hotel when travelling from Switzerland to Calais and have never been disappointed over 4 visits so far. It is a days run of about 500 kilometers from our home to St. Menehould so is ideal for us. We book over the Internet in English and they reply very quickly. Very friendly staff who do... More

We have stayed at Le Cheval Rouge many times on our journeys accross Europe over the past 15 years. It is consistently good and now feels like home from home - we are welcomed like one of the family. The owner, Melanie, has just done a complete refurbishment of the rooms and the result is superb. A stay here represents... More

We arrived on a sunday and it was nice to know that the brasserie would be open 7 evenings a week. Great! And it was very busy on a sunday evening late in september. We stayed 3 nights and used the restaurant once but preferred the relaxed Brasserie with its positive buzz. The brasserie was also used for breakfast and... More

we're on a driving day outside of Reims and we just kept on driving West, then came upon this town with a sign saying Capital du Pot Cochon ! We stumbled into Le Cheval Rouge and tried what this town was famous for - pork! but I also tried its baked escargots which was yummy! All in all a nice... More

I took a party of 12 French and Brits there recently. Unfortunately the main restaurant was closed because it was a Sunday, but the restaurant organised a long table in the bar, which was OK, although a bit cramped. We were on the a la carte menu which was typical French. Everyone seemed to enjoy their meals which were not... More

The hotel part of the operation was comfortable but not exceptional and it has no elevator. But the food was the best we had on this trip to France (13 days) eating at Michelin one star and Bib Gourmand restaurants and was quite inexpensive to boot. We didn't eat the pied do porc specialty but the fois gras du canard... More

We ate the speciality of the town pigs trotters and it was not bad at all but i think that it is not everybody's taste. The service was ok and the waitress really friendly. We took the menu of 28€ with different choices of plates which was not expensive for the quality we got.

Hotel is very central, running back from the main road along a quiet side street with free parking. The room was on the back corner of the hotel, was the size I would expect, and had electric external window shutters. The decorations seemed to be very recent, as did the bathroom. The public/communal areas have old woodwork and furniture with... More
