This is a great location and on the whole nice hotel, but for the cost it really could do with updating. The decor is past it sell by date and the bathrooms are out of synch with what is generally available. more

My husband and I booked this hotel for aspecial weekend away, the room was adequate but not as comfortable as we expected, the evening meal in the restaraunt was frankly terrible and in our opinion very expensive for poor quality food , the service was very good from the staff , In our opinion the only saving grace was the... more
We have recently returned from a weekend break and would thoroughly recommend the Boars Head. The staff were very friendly, the food was excellent and the hotel was very welcoming. We would recommend booking a superior room as they are larger and more comfortable than the standard rooms. All rooms have tea/coffee making facilities and delicious biscuits. The "little extras"... more
My wife and I stayed for 4 nights over Easter. The hotel and Ripley Castle are owned by the Ingilby family as seems to be much of the village of Ripley and a lovely place it is. We stayed across the road from the main hotel building in a very comfortable superior room and we were looked after as if... more
We stayed at the Boar's Head for 2 nights as we were attending a wedding at Ripley Castle. The location is lovely, right in the centre of a picture-postcard village, and just around 100m from Ripley castle itself. As we were delayed on our journey, we phoned ahead to enquire about the time of last food orders, and were told... more
One night stay to celebrate birthday. Evening meal in Bistro turned out to be a better bet than main dining room where large wedding party holding sway. Afternoon tour of castle the highlight thanks to excellent guide. Room/bed comfortable. Breakfast kedgeree superb. friendly efficient service but spoiled by unwanted 6:00 a.m. wake up call (not cancelled on system) more

The main distinguishing feature is the pig theme throughout - you will either find that cute and quirky, or a bit irritating: pig key chains for your room key, pig chocolates on your pillow, etc. The food is definitely above average, but it isn't outstanding. The rooms... more
We were fortunate enough to get married at Ripley Castle in September 2007 which was a truly amazing experience however we did not stay at the Boars Head as family were there and we wanted a little bit of space! We returned this year for our 1st Anniversary booking a superior room as part of a package including dinner and... more
We chose this hotel primarily because of the exellent food reviews that we had read and the lovely location. We were certainly not disappointed by Ripley and indeed our room was simple but comfortable - pretty much what we had expected. The hotel itself was a little on the shabby side and definitely needed a touch of TLC but we... more
We got married at the famous Ripley Castle and then stopped in the Boars Head Hotel on our wedding night. We had the honeymoon suite and it was absolutely beautiful. The decoration in the room was very romantic and the room was very spacious. The only downside was that the bed seemed to be two double beds pushed together which... more
