We enjoyed the great hospitality of this sweet couple and enjoyed watching the many agouti's and birds visiting the garden. The bungalow was basic but clean. Would visit again and stay longer next time.

We stayed one night with Beatrice & Mateo in their tiny basic backyard bungalow. They bent over backwards to please us, and their other German guest. Mateo gave us a tour of the entire town and surroundings in his a.c. car. Beatrice cooked a delicious dinner for $10 ea. and we watched the agouti's, and tropical birds come to their... More

This was a great experience! There were more animals coming through the garden than we saw during our jungle walks. The owners were very helpful and they drove us to catch our boat tour which we might have missed otherwise. They cooked a delicious dinner for us as well. It was very peaceful to just chill in the hammock and... More

I stayed here with my friend in August. Mateo and Beatrix are such lovely people and did all they could to make our stay special. Mateo drove us around town to show us what was there and very kindly took us to the head of the walking trails the next couple days. We didn't speak any Spanish and Mateo and... More

Mateo is a living legend. The B&B is very basic, but it is not the reason to go. Mateo & Sra. Beatrice are hospitality personified. Their home is warm with a welcoming patio and lovely morning coffee & breakfast. Mateo drove us all over Gamboa telling us the history that he has lived. He showed us the old, the new,... More

I stayed here for one evening before taking an early ferry the next day to Barro Colorado Island. When I arrived Mateo and his wife greeted me kindly and checked me in, soon afterwards Mateo showed me the monkeys and Toucans that hang out in his backyard! The place is quaint and comfortable, although if you want 5 star accomodation... More

We loved sitting on the patio and photographing many bird species, agouti, tamarind monkeys. Mateo and Beatrice are charming lovely knowledgeable hosts. She cooked for us one night. Breakfast was basic and tasty. Be advised there is one small store in town that mainly has junk food. Best to stock up before you arrive in town although you cannot cook.... More

The rooms are simple but comfortable. We had a double bed with fan, comfortable matress, nice white sheets and thick towels. The fan has not been cleaned in a long time. The was a bookcase and a couple hooks. The room is very well mosquito proofed. No curtains on back windows overlooking forest. The bathroom was clean, door closes properly... More

As others have said, Mateo is a fantastic guy who showed us around town and picked us up from various places (Soberania NP, Los Lagartos Restuarant, Gamboa dock) for only $10 for 3 of us. We rented the apartment across the road which despite being a little musty, has some colonial charm that adds to the experience. The only thing... More

My friend and I made a reservation to stay here knowing little about the place, choosing it for its excellent proximity to the birding options nearby. We left with new friends, or adoptive grandparents, in Mateo and Beatriz, the couple who run the B&B in their home. Upon our arrival in a taxi from Panama City, Mateo, who retired from... More
