Now that it's a sealed road all the way to the location, access is simple and the trip is worth it. With a variety of accommodation types available, we chose a Pioneer Hut which provides the occupants with a QS bed and a spacious en suite. There is minimal cutlery/crockery, no TV, no microwave or toaster - obviously the inference... More

The staff were excellent, as were the facilities including raised carbon fibre tents which I stayed in. The bedding was clean as were the showers and toilets which were also shared with the campervans. The attached restaurant was adequate, if not 10% more expensive than a city. The times at which they served were quite restrictive on when you had... More

Undara Volcanic National Park is just amazing place. We stayed and slept in train carriages and they were excellent even had en suites. Great barbie area to cook your meals and little animals like kangaroo were just sitting around and you could feed them. There were also great looking huts you could sleep in. This place was amazing to see bat... More

We spent one night at Undara and experienced the real Far North Queensland outback. The staff were very pleasant and we booked ourselves in en suite room in one of the old train carriages used for accommodation on site. The room was quite expensive for what you received, but they had a captured audience in a way. I wouldn't suggest... More

We stayed for one night at Undara Resort in an unpowered campsite. We found the staff to be friendly and welcoming and we enjoyed the rather unique set up with accommodation, restaurant, bar, office and more all accommodated in historic train carriages. The resort offered unexpected extras like a library carriage with a book swap shelf and a free tea... More

They didn't teach us about these geological marvels at school - at least the schools we went to. The tour to the lava tubes was well run. The guide was interesting and knowledgable. The large group was broken up into groups of 15 which was good. The facilities at the campsite were the best we have come across during our... More

I have been living in Townsville for more than 10 years and never visited the Undara Lava tubes, which are about 450km away. We started driving at about 4pm on Friday and got there at about 8:30pm. NOTE!!!! Drive carefully (not too fast), a lot of animals are on the road just before dark (including cows!!! :). Undara lodge is... More

Our second visit and noticed a couple of. Changes. The dining area, looked great. And changes to the cabins. We chose a rail carriage and a couple of things needed work. The interconnecting door did not shut well and had no locks on any doors. Toilet in the ensuite was very compact but love the ambience and character features. Bush... More

We loved our trip to Undara. We staying in one of the railway carriage me went on the sunset and arch tours. While this isn't a cheap stay it is well worth it. The setting is amazing, kangaroos running wild round the lodge, amazing Savannah guides and a peaceful and relaxing environment. The swimming pools is a welcome addition to... More
