We stayed in Zakros apartment and it was perfect. Fresh bread provided daily and the most beautiful original apartments. Beds are firm but they seem to be like that everywhere in Greece. (Not necessarily a bad thing either.) Cell service comes and goes but the wifi is good. For a remote, completely relaxing, undeveloped holiday this is the place. The... More

We knew what we were letting ourselves in for , as we had visited Kato Zakros many years ago - yes, it is a winding, steep drive, but then that's what makes Crete's scenery so dramatic! Come here to unwind - don't expect a shop or any bustling gift shops etc there really is nothing here but a pebbly beach... More

This was our first trip to Crete and we are so happy to have chosen Stella's traditional apartments. After reading such great reviews on Tripadvisor I didn't expect her to have any availability for us, but she wrote back very quickly and communication with her was a breeze. Stella is a wonderful host, who really goes above and beyond for... More

Great, tidy little apartments,so close to the beach with a taverna below serving breakfast and good food. Made to feel very welcome. Found these buy using the rough guide and they were well chosen and just as described

Stella offers five studio apartments, located in a large, beautiful garden close to the entrance to a dramatic, deep canyon which is perfect for walkers and nature lovers. Stella collects Cretan antiques, and the rooms' decorations provide a kind of instant history lesson. There are so many wonderful nooks and corners in Stella's green, shady setting! We loved the hammocks... More

Stella's apartments get rave reviews everywhere, especially in Lonely Planet, and they are all well justified. This really is the perfect place to go if you want a break from the crowds, and you want a touch of luxury. The apartments are extremely well kitted out, and the grounds are perfect for relaxing, with hammocks, gardens, loungers, etc. Her self-help... More

We usually stay at the Terra Minoika Villas, also owned by Stella and Ilias. However, we stayed in a studio for one night before transferring to the villa. It was a lovely surprise to find such a beautiful and tranquil garden, with plenty of seating and hammocks. There is also a roof garden which allows some view of the sea.... More

This is difficult, neither my wife nor I could work out exactly why we had slight reservations. The people who run it are fine and the garden is superb. The rooms are maybe overthemed and very dark, one does seem to be very close to neighbours and the communal kitchen feel does not work for us. It is further than... More

We stayed in an apartment I think (the ones with view of the sea). Fabulous. Great location, with a 15 min walk to the sea and the tavernas (which serve excellent food), and you have Minoan Palace ruins to yourself. Beautifully kept gardens and really nice touches such as hammocks and loungers in the shade. Home made jam, fresh bread... More

We stayed six nights in a studio. Stellas place is just loveley.( as is Stella ).Very comfortable and clean ( rooms cleaned every day except Sunday). The gardens are beautiful, shady and very well kept.No attention to detail has been spared. There is a harmony and calmness about the place, rareley found elsewhere. Kato Zakros is about as far off the beaten track as... More
