We enjoyed hanging out in the garden, enjoying the sea view, after spending the morning seeing the ruins or hiking the Gorge of the Dead. Georgia gave us a ride up to our car so we could do the hike one way. We did one swim at Kato Zakros but appreciated Georgia's tip to try Xerocampos -- gorgeous! The stay... More

We had high hopes for Yiannis Retreat and our expectations were totally met. We spent only 2 glorious days there in April 2014 but the people and the place made a huge impression on us. The accommodation is dark, rustic and simple with an outdoor veranda, but you will want to spend your time outdoors as the gardens are exquisite.... More

I absolutely love this place, I have travelled all around Cete, staying at different apartments, but this has got to be the best, Katerina and Yiannis have made this retreat, a delightful place to relax in, with lots of stone built verandahs, seating areas, hammocks etc.and with sea views, this is a perfect place for a restful holiday, they have planned... It would be hard to fault Yiannis Retreat, for location, for quality of accommodation, for cleanliness and, above all, for the warmth of the hospitality extended by Yiannis, his wife Katerina and their lovely housekeeper Georgia. Set about 10 minutes' stroll from the beach, the beautiful gardens afford some welcome shade in the heat of the day, and frame the... More

Having booked this place on a dull and cold December day last year, I was a bit worried weather I could have been too easily lead by the lovely photoes on the website. So it was with a bit of anxiety my husband and I reached Kato Zakros after a long but beautiful journey along the south coast of Crete.... More

Katerina and Yiannis are the most incredible hosts. The retreat is beautifully peaceful, everything is clean and conceived in order to welcome the guests and let them relax and enjoy the powerful beauty of Kato Zakros - which is per se an amazing place. we had an unforgettable stay! Silvia & Ale

Yiannis Retreat was everything we could have hoped for and more. After arriving, our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer. Gorgeous views of the gardens and sea below. The rooms are like small one room cabins, rustic and really nice. They leave you a basket full of delicious breads, fruit, cookies and homemade baked goods for breakfast and... More

Yiannis Retreat Studios is a complex of five traditional renovated stone houses, situated in the wonderful green valley of Kato Zakros, surrounded by olive trees, garden plants and bushes, all there for you to enjoy the magnificent view and the blue and clear waters of Kato Zakros bay.The rooms are 500m away from the beach, a distance close enough for you to enjoy your swimming in the clean and clear waters and taste the traditional cuisine at the taverns and also far enough to abort the stress from the everyday routine , in our magnificent location.Inside the rooms, we have combined the traditional element in the decoration and the furniture with the functionality and the comfort of a modern lodging, trying to offer you a warm and pleasant environment for your holidays. Each room is fully equipped with all electric appliances such as electric cooker, refrigerator, coffee maker, sandwich maker and household goods to prepare your breakfast and meals.Outdoors there are very beautiful trees, like pines, cypresses, palm trees, acacias, mournies, voukamvilies, jasmines, banana trees, cactus etc. , that offer you their coolness and shade when you want to relax. The garden is separated in three uneven levels with natural fences and trees that create private corners for your personal privacy. We invite you to visit Kato Zakros, and have the chance to discover the eastern part of Crete, see the Natural-wild beauty and enjoy the clean beaches. Taste Cretan traditional food and of course have relaxing holidays in one of the fewest places of Crete, which continues to be untouched by the “Modern Tourism”. ... more   less
