Vamos is in the western area of Crete - an area which is much greener than the rest of the Island. Vamos looks towards the majestic and picturesque White Mountains which have a covering of snow until mid-May. From the village, you can rummage around the penninsula and make forays into the mountains. If you are reasonably fit you can... More

We just returned from a 2 week self guided bicycle trip that included a week on Crete. Vamos was one of our destinations and we loved it. Very welcoming, lovely, authentic Cretan village, excellent accommodations, several very nice little restaurants, and one of the highlights of the trip: Traditional Cretan cooking class with Koulis Barydakis. If you are headed to... More

Traditional houses and appartments fully restored some even a hundred years old, situated in and around Vamos, some with a pool (shared or not). Clean and comfortable, spacious and attentive daily upkeep. The tourist office staff is very friendly and helpful. A rental car is recommended. Numerous beaches in proximity, historical sites, delicious restaurants, and for those who dare wonderful... More

We booked a week's stay in Vamos in a small house overlooking the village. On arrival we received a warm welcome and learned that we had been upgraded to a larger house near the entrance to the village, across from the church. The house (Rodia) was spacious, cool, clean, well-equipped, and very handy for the village (more or less next... More

I stayed there in a two-level cottage for 10 days in middle August. The complex has the name "Anthia" and it is consisted from 3 two-level cottages of old time, very nice reconstructed, made from stone, with wooden floor on the upper level and wooden roof. The two cottages are together and the third is separated. A lovely garden with... More

Below white Mountains,10 minutes from the nearest sea, in a green, clean and quiet place, with great hospitality and people willing to serve us every day! We will definitely go back next year! tip:the small cafe next to our village, serving greek coffee and tasty food, plus the art cafe "liakoto" with live cretan music, is something we will never... The apartment was exactly as advertised and it was given to us in super-clean condition. But most important was the friendliness of the super-helpful staff. We asked for lots of extra help and it was delivered without fuss or problems. For example: we put our luggage on a bus in Chania, then took another bus to the top if the... More

The village is everything you want it to be, the landscape beautiful, the food excellent and it is very much worth noting that the staff at the Vamos Tourism Office are top notch: perfect combination of real friendliness and professionalism. If you go, which we recommend you do, seek out charming and efficient Clio at the office who will assist... More
