This guest house (it only does breakfast and rooms) is idyllic. You have excellent views of the great river and its surrounding vineyards (a World Hertitage site). The breakfast is wonderfulwith lots of local produce and the rooms are clean and comfortable. The hosts (Maria and Victor) are welcoming, full of good advice on places to visit and sometimes invite... More

I have to say first of all - this place is super cute. it's on the hillside in the Douro valley, and completely picturesque. One of the most beautiful places I have stayed. However... i have to say that there were some serious downsides. 1) it is tough to get to. If you have a week to wander around then... More

A four night stay during the last week in October was ideal to allow exploration of the Douro. The location is at the western end of the "interesting" wine growing region, and as a result we did find ourselves often travelling the same roads eastward as we explored the region. The Casa though, was excellent, and lived up to its... More

We loved our 2 night stay at Casa de Canilhas! With only 7 rooms, this beautiful manor home, owned by Maria and her doctor husband, assisted by friendly Fernanda, was a wonderful stay. Though not on a working winery, the home is set in vines and fruit trees, near the village of Mesao Frio. The Douro Valley is a very... More

I travelled solo to the Douro region and stayed one night here. As other reviewers have mentioned the views are indeed spectacular and I'm sure the swimming pool is a treat if you are staying here during the hot summer months. However it seems the decor hasn't been touched in years, which can be charming but I found it stuffy.... More

Everyone writes about the views, so what to add. The picture on their site say it all! Absolutely no comments. The location is very quiet, yet close to roads leading to motorways, but definitely in the countryside. The light and shadows of the sun rising over the mountains is magical, the sights and sounds of the occasional boat on the... More

Casa de Canilhas is the perfect place to relax in the Douro. While we only stayed one night we took full advantage of the amenities and breathtaking views of the Douro valley and river. Our room faced the river and had a wonderful balcony with chairs to relax in. The pool is perfect and just what you need on a... More

I visited the Casa de Canilhas in June 2013 as I was traveling by myself. I had arrived at a paradise. The view is spectacular. Maria introduced herself and told me where to eat in town which was just a 5 minute drive away. The room was on the second floor corner with a balcony that had a couple wicker... More

The house was a bit difficult to find at first since the road was not on our NAV, but once we found ourselves on N108, the name of the Casa is well signed at the road that leads up to it. The drive up the hill is steep, but the views at the top are rewarding. The house sits high... More

The place is absolutely amazing. Our room had a fantastic view, and so did the pool and the table we had breakfast at. We did not have enough time to go further away on the Douro, and Casa de Canilhas gave us a great idea of what life on the Douro looks like. The village up on the road has... More
