This posada is amongst the finest hotels we have ever stayed at. The staff is attentive to your every need and finds a way to never say no. The food and wine is abundant and delicious. The buffet breakfasts are a plethora of choices. We stayed there 5 nights and never ran out of things to do and see. The... More

We stayed in September 2014 2 nights for the second time in this Pousada and again it was a wonderful experience, the restaurant was even better. The building is beautiful and the staff is very attentive, above all from the restaurant. We asked if they had a typical Portuguese dessert [arroz doce], they didn't, but because it was our last... My company (Expensify) goes overseas for a month every year, and this year we picked Portugal. We wanted to find a remote, castle-like location to work from for a week and after evaluating several locations, this was the obvious choice. We arrived with high expectations, and they were all exceeded in every way. The rooms are beautiful, the grounds well... More

Great location, well off the beaten track and had the feeling of returning to pre-EU Portugal, the village is charming and largely unspoilt by insensitive new development and the pousada is a simply delightful converted monastery The public areas and the rooms are perfectly acceptable and our room has fine with a great view over a courtyard and out to... As part of a Titan Douro cruise we stayed here for 3 nights; up in the hills it is an impressive sight and a noble building BUT as other reviewers noted, staff service poor, if you can find them. Bedrooms are spacious but very poorly designed (by an architect), so that the outward opening bathroom door hit or blocked the... More

When we arrived at this Pousada, it was everything we'd hoped for. It seemed like a converted monastery, although it was really a reconstruction. It was light and airy and the bedroom was large and tastefully decorated in a minimalist style. The bedroom looked out onto a great rural view. The disappointment came first when I went for a swim... We recently spent a week in Northern Portugal visiting 3 Pousadas. This Pousada is a beautiful old Monastery well modernised. Comfortable if compact room. Some Reception desk staff occasionally offhand but other staff very good. Good restaurant though somewhat formulaic and less individual since being managed by Pestana Group . Nice swimming pool and great start point for exploring National... More

We stayed at this Pousada (Monastery) as the 2nd part of a Titan Douro river cruise. Yes as promised it is a special, historic and relaxing place to stay. However there were issues. Firstly the welcome from staff was underwhelming to say the least. Bottles of wine and nibbles had been organised for us by Titan but our Tour Manager... More

As a plus, the architecture is fabulous as well a the surroundings. Ideal for quite leisure, couples, mature even families. Access should be by car since it is indispensable for visiting the many spots around in this Geres area. Rooms are quite good, facilities also. Service is of quality but with space for improvement and management should read and tackle... More

the arrival was a little bit of an appointment, the monastery is in the middle of the village and the tranquility we sought for was not as present as hoped for. Our room was towards the street, so we heard the traffic all night - it was not a lot, but still woke us up. There was a wedding going... More
