Quinta do Estreito is a good hotel set in landscaped gardens with a separate restaurant in the grounds. This serves typical Portuguese food which is excellent and has entertainment on some evenings. However, the hotel is a good 15 - 20 minute drive into Funchal and it is difficult to walk anywhere as there are no pavements and the drivers... More

After reading reviews here we were expecting a quiet few days at a top-notch hotel to nicely round-off our fairly busy Madeiran holiday. So what a disappointment to find a tired looking hotel seemingly unchanged and unimproved since it was inaugurated in the 1990s. Our room had its quite possibly original 4:3 tube TV with worn-out remote control. The main... More

The best thing about staying here is having breakfast on the terrace outside the Quinta, in the sun. The food is of very high quality; we had several excellent dinners in the Restaurant Adega da Quinta, and lunch at the Baccus restaurant. There are stunning views from the rooms down towards the coast. The hotel gardens are lovely. Wi-fi should... More

We booked this last minute and had an amazing stay. The hotel is outside of Funchal and has great views, and is built around an old Quinta, which has been done very successfully. The rooms are all very clean and well serviced. I do agree that some areas look tired but this really doesn't impact on your stay. The breakfast... More

In today’s voracious world of hotel chain take-overs, people under a certain age may not remember a large European chain called the Jolly Hotels, now gobbled up by the nh chain (me neither). They were, I recall, indeed rather jolly – bright and colourful, at least 20 years before the cheery budget hotels of today. Whereas the same fate, I... More

The hotel is set quite high up, with good views, some 25 mins by mini bus from Funchal. It isn't quiet during the day, because of traffic climbing the hill to the village, passing the hotel. I cannot fault the every helpful staff, but the hotel and the rooms are in need of refurbishment, e.g. the carpet from reception is... More

Elegant old quinto, which has now become the restaurant ('Bacchus' good but expensive), breakfast room, bar and library, is perched on top of a modern block of hotel rooms arranged in two wings spread down the hillside. Surrounding vineyards are now lush gardens. Old wine store in the grounds is another good and more reasonably priced restaurant. Rooftop heated pool,... More

Truly fantastic front of house and serving staff, couldn't help enough and incredibly multilingual :) Bed linen changed daily along with the rooms being cleaned. Really excellent food at both restaurants, and close enough to the village for other choices too. Great views over Funchal from the room balconies and pool area on the roof, whilst being far enough out... More

The location is lovely and the hotel is a very comfortable option for travellers who don't want all the hustle and bustle of Funchal. The hotel has a couple of restaurant options which are very good and there is a very attractive swimming pool area for relaxing. The hotel room was comfortable with balcony and lovely view. The staff are... More

Quinta Estreito is situated at 25-30 minutes drive from Funchal center, up in the hills of the village Camara de Lobos. It's the perfect place to go to if you have no other expectations, than peace, quiet and a beautiful view on the Atlantic. The hotel is in fairly good shape, although if you take a closer look it's obvious,... More
