My husband and I stayed in a small double air-conditioned room overlooking the square. While the location was convenient and the room pleasant enough, the bed was like a rock! The staff was minimally helpful, and the breakfast was passable. Nonetheless, for the price, it may be worth sleeping on top of the covers to create a cushion to ease... more

Good value hotel. Ideally situated for everything and loved the view of the square. All the staff were friendly and helpful at all times. We were in room 104 and hardly experienced any noise. Room was absolutely fine and very clean. I can appreciate that the same breakfast day after day gets a bit boring, but what do you expect... more

First let me say, I never write reviews, but when i saw all the positives written about this one I felt the need to inform people. Not that the hotel is terrible - it is okay. Extremely basic, no-frills. Basically, one step above a hostel. If that's okay with you, good, keep reading. Hard woods floors are pretty, but that... more

we just came back from the residencial alegria. the building is lovely, the hotel is fairly central and I would definitely go back there. the wooden floorboards were one of the reasons for us choosing this hotel, and although the room we had was smallish, there was a 'balcony' which made it feel more spacious. Also, the ceiling was high... more

We had 2 rooms in the hotel (a twin for our teenage daughters & a double for us) next to each other (just as we requested). They were rooms 210 & 209. Both were very clean and simply furnished. They both had spare blankets & pillows (which we used). Breakfast was rolls, toast, cheese, ham, jams plus juice, coffee &... more

We stayed for 5 nights at the end of January. We were a little worried as we found the hotel thru Alistair Sawday's special places to stay, booked & then read some poor reviews. All was fine. Aerobus straight there a warm welcome and a lovely room looking out over the park/square. We had room 208 and I can see... more

I stayed for 1 night (single room) in this hotel about 2 weeks' ago. I loved the location, which is right off the elegant Avenida da Liberdad. It faces a nice square that holds a little arts/crafts market I guess on the weekends. The hotel is old and the room was small (given a double bed), but very clean and... more

We stayed there a week ago and we liked it because it was clean and central. Everybody is friendly and the breakfast was good. The residence is very central and very quiet actually. Our room had 001 had rather a small and hard bed, but we will definetly stay there again. more

Been here twice already and thought its time to review it too. The Residencial Alegria is located at the Praca de Alegria just a few meters off the Avenida de Libertade which connects Praca Marques de Pombal with the Rossio, so its pretty close to Bairro Alto, Bairro Baixa and also in walking distance of Alfama. All thess are the... more

My husband and I stayed in Residencial Alegria for a night after a tour in the south of Portugal. We were given one of the room witch is just behind the Night Club!!!! We did not sleep a single minute, the music was slightly too loud!!! We complain to the night manager and he ask us to fill a form,... more
