this is a great hotel if you like nature and birding - hotel sports a larger area where you can see a wide variety of birds in their natural environment. Hotel also sports birdf eeders that consistently attracts few species in the mornings and afternoons. We saw a bunch of macaws munching on nearby almond trees as well as an... More

I stayed here with my birder husband. As others have stated, the outdoor bathroom is different. There was a firefly inside our bungalow lighting up our room for us. We saw more birds, monkeys and reptiles here than we did with our Carrara tour guide. We loved the food! We got to choose between fish, chicken, pork, beef and vegetarian... More

We stayed here for just two nights during a three week birding trip around CR. Whilst my (motel-style) room was a good size and very clean, with a large, comfortable double bed and a decent shower, I gather there are newer/better rooms available too (good views and better appointed). It is probably well worth trying to book one of these... More

Surprisingly, Cerro Lodge is located in a fairly remote location. But it's definitely worth the drive in. The view from the dining area gives a distant view across the Gulf of Nicoya. Otherwise you look out upon the greenery of the surrounding area. If you're interested in birds, you'll find plenty on offer here. And a walk (or drive) down... More

Within 10 minutes of arriving we'd seen the scarlet macaws, munching on almonds in the trees in the garden! We stayed 3 nights at this wonderful property, clean and comfortable if not luxurious room with it's quirky outdoor bathroom, we loved it! The staff and owner Federico were very attentive and we felt very well looked after. Federico organised a... More

This lodge is absolutely beautiful, surrounded by nature, with lots of birds around you. For birding trips, this would be the ideal place to stay. We, however, stayed here on a organised trip for parents with 12+ teenagers. Except for a river tour and birding walks, there is not much to do here. The swimming pool has a great view,... More

We loved Cerro Lodge, watching those red macaws fly over as we bathed in the pool in the sunset. Howler monkeys in the mango forest. Iguanas in the magical little outside bathrooms! Lovely food, lovely people, lovely atmosphere. We spent every evening in the comfortable openair lounge watching geckos, Kiskedees.. Had brilliant crocodile trip and would definitely come again Thanks... More

Cerro Lodge is to be commended as the only ecolodge in the area. The rooms are good if small and have aircon and the staff are very friendly. Food was okay but not a patch on other places we stayed. Our main problems were of our own making. We have very little Spanish and the best English speaker was away... More

Our birding trip used this as a base for this area. Nice clean room with air conditioning! WiFi only at restaurant. Food at restaurant was fairly standard Costa Rican food but still good. Dining area had a nice view and excellent bird feeders. We didn't use the pool but it look nice and clean. Found good birds right at the... More

This is a great spot for a getaway. This was a birdwatching trip, and the birds in the area are excellent--some right on the grounds. The rooms are well-appointed, the staff friendly and helpful, and the food is varied and excellent. The pool is also very nice.
