We stayed at El Tucano for three nights. Based on our experience, I recommend seeking another facility – perhaps in La Fortuna? First, the good: the grounds are very nicely landscaped, the facility features a thermal pool, there is a beautiful stream with a nature trail along the edge of the property, and birds are easy to spot (we saw... When we first arrived at the El Toucano we thought it was beautiful. We found the room to be a little musty, but the general dampness of the area likely creates that anywhere. The grounds are well kept, the pools, spas, and hot mineral baths are nice and it was a friendly and social atmosphere. It was great to have... More

Stayed 3 nights in order to visit local sights. Grounds are lush, well manicured, and full of bird song. Rooms are fine, if a little dated (think 1960s bed room). Lots of dark, closed door meeting rooms. With lovely stained glass. Food was disappointing in variety (except for crash tropical fruit). Thermal pools, steam room (really.a hut) and walking trails, mini... More

Our experience was not good at all. There are multiple thermal pools, but you have only 2 towels per day. That means that you can use dry towels only one time. After that, you have to use the same wet towel over and over again during the day. We even went to the laundry and asked for a dry towel,... More

We stayed as a family for 3 night to visit volcan Arenal.. Pros: -heated thermal water pool with "water fall", adjacent to it a cooler pool -sauna with steam from thermal waters -views of the wilderness from buffet area ( saw about 5 butterflys on first breakfast alone) - kind staff, specially the waiters :) - this hotel consists of... We stayed at El Toucano three nights, and it was definitely too long. Many Costa Rican families use El Toucano for their family vacations, so it is obviously a nice place to visit and relax. However, we don't recommend this location as a base to see Costa Rica because there isn't anywhere to go from the hotel. Our room did... More

My girlfriend and I went to Costa Rica to enjoy nature, the jungle canopy and hot springs. We were certainly not disappointed. The volcanic heated pool was spectacular and we even took a dip in the river running behind the buildings. The staff at the hotel were lovely and congenial. The food was nothing to write home about, but it... More

One positive fact: So at the beginning I tried to get a soft drink from the bar at the pool side, and the waiter was awesome, he even started a conversation while I was watching the pats game. But that was the only positive fact. The guy at lobby knew nothing about customer service, gave us zero info about the... More

Grounds are well manicured. The kitchen staff are by all counts polite and courteous. Now here is when things fall apart. Guest hospitality is xxxxxxxx The menu was very limited. The internet service was almost non existent; on!y being able to connect in the lobby and sometimes in the restaurant. Finally the room furniture is outdated and poorly maintained. The... More

Terrible facts: 1) I booked in Expedia and it says the Hotel has free wifi... well they only have wi fi in the restaurant and the lobby but they dont have wifi in the room! 2) The room was old, lack of privacy because it has a huge window in the front door so you could hear everything has anybody...
