I loved the outdoors, relaxing, friendly atmosphere of Dijembe Backpackers! Staff is super friendly, and I love all the animals around (baz the goat, jesse and ahmed the dogs, and the several horses). Definitely one of my favorite hostels I have ever stayed in!

I’ve been to many backpackers but none has had the nice welcoming vibe as Dijembe Backpackers. IF you want to stay at a vibrant place with heaps of hammocks, a pet goat, pancakes in the morning, jokingly conversations, friendly staff who does the little extra, djembe-sessions (drumming jamming-sessions), the possibility to hang out with a horse in the bar and... It’s a place that you would never forget. Warm and fun staff, goat the baz, horses, always welcome you .You could totally relax here because of natural atmosphere and good food. The first night I enjoyed chicken braai and also cooked pancake myself next morning. If you are looking for natural place in Strormsriver, Dijembe Backpackers would be your best choice... More

I booked a hut in Storms River Mouth Rest Camp for 2 people and I also booked a shuttle from this backpackers to bring me there on the 6th June since there is no transportation service. We arrived at Storms River village by bus (14km away from the reserve) and the backpackers taxi driver wasn't at our arrival, we had... More

This place was great! I stayed for 3 nights. You are always given a warm welcome and treated nicely by all the staff. Place is clean but rustic so come prepared with more of a hippie/true backpackers mind set. Everyone can sit around the fire at night and enjoy a braai. We had a group drumming session one night which... More

I feel sorry that I have to write a bad review, I guess it depends what you are looking for... Service: The manager is friendly but didn't seem to care much about helping us to plan our next day. He seemed to be pre-occupied to go sit around the fire to chill and party with the other guests. Did not... More

If you're looking for all the mod-cons, this place may not be the ideal choice for you. But if you're looking for a place with a great vibe, a place that makes you feel at home the second you walk in, with a relaxing and open atmosphere, great food (free pancakes for breakfast!), and in a very positive sense memorable... We only stayed here for one night but were made to feel very welcome. As it was low season there were only a few people staying so we pretty much had the place to ourselves. The place was very clean, there was a free breakfast of DIY pancakes, and even a hot tub on the balcony. We took the dijembes... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
As you walk into Dijembe you become a part of what this homely and sustainable lodge's name promises: a circle of friends. Handmade hammocks, recycled building materials, fresh mountain water and small details like the 'frog city' which protects little amphibians in the wild green camping garden, prove the passion of the green Dijembe team. Respecting the Khoisan ancestors, Dijembe not only invites its guests to drumming and dances, but also preserves their heritage by including and strengthening the local community. Visit the local township with its art shops and taverns. Bounce through the National Park and explore nature on foot, affordable mountain bikes or on the backs of Dijembe's horses - or book some tubing. End the day with a wholesome organic dinner and bread from the stone pizza oven, then star gaze from the jacuzzi on the candle-lit deck. ... more   less
