The stay at Casa da Farmacia is one of our most memorable experiences during our two week trip to Portugal in July 2014! Hose and his wife were perfect hosts, very welcoming and helpful. Not only did they provide information and recommended activities for the stay; Hose also printed out maps, made an appointment for us to visit a nearby... More

This can be a tough place to find. Apparently they changed the name of the street so although Jose has tried to update all the booking sites it can still be hard to find but so well worth the exploration! Jose was a fabulous host and mapped out several wineries, viewing spots and the lovely vintage hotel for a sunset... More

We were really surprised by so warm welcome by owner. He was so helpful about what to visit, where to have lunch and etc. His attention to details (nice interior, perfect music - New Fado we were listening for first time in life...). Have to mention the dinner he prepared for us - it was perfect! And the breakfast so... More

A great little place, slightly off the beaten path, it exceeded our expectations. The proprietor is an excellent host and chef. Anyone who stays there should definitely try his gourmet meals. He was very helpful in recommending places to visit, providing maps, and arranging a boat trip on the Douro. A great place to explore the Douro Valley from. I... More

This 9 room hotel in the town of Armamar is a standout. The owner is on the premises 24/7, or so it seems and provides warm and friendly service to his guests. In addition, he is a chef (or at least someone who loves to cook) and with prior notice, will cook 4 courses meals for guests. The hotel is... More

From the moment we arrived we knew this place was special. The thoughtfully modernised property was a delight: comfortable, spotlessly clean and located in the lovely Douro area, The proprietor was endlessly obliging, offering advice on outings etc, We would absolutely recommend ordering dinner in the casa, prepared and served by the owner. It was absolutely delicious, reasonably priced and... More

There are hardly enough superlatives to describe the charm of the property and the proprietor. This small hotel perfectly combines the past with the present. There is every modern convenience in this beautifully renovated and spotlessly clean building. Breakfast is superb. All products are local and fresh. The jams and yogurt are house made. Each morning there is a wide... More

It was my 2nd time there and it was as good as the 1st time. Great service and hospitality. Jose made great tapas. He also made a great dinner for me and my family. His assistant was very attentive to our needs.

We only had 4 nights in the Douro valley, but after reading the reviews of Casa da Farmacia, we knew that we had to visit this place. Being short in time, we only booked a single night. We arrived at the afternoon, and after José checked us in, we were given great tips on where to go and what to... More
