This pousada has been a castle, a convent and a palace, with bits built in different periods. Originally the former Knights of the Order of Malta’s monastery founded in the 14th century, it has been added to over the years. It has magnificent vaulted ceilings and mediaeval cloisters. Whilst the building has been converted to accommodate guests, it still remains... more

Flor da Rosa will live long in the memory - a stunning conversion of a 14th century monastery near the town of Crato. There is a striking modern annex which also features a lovely pool. Our room was absolutely gigantic - you need a map to find the bathroom. Amazing bar with high vaulted ceilings. The only let-down was the... more

For many years i always dreamt to stay here. The weekend i stayed at this Pousada was one of the worst experiences. The place is medieval from the outside. It feels like you are entering a very old castle. The place has been restaured with modern lines. Nevertheless it only facade. You pay a very expensive rate to stay here,... more

My husband and I received a weekend in Pousada do Crato as a wedding gift. Certainly because my my friends at work knew I've always wished to visit this place and most of all because I love romantic getaways, even when they're just here in Portugal. Nevertheless, Pousada do Crato was a bit disappoinitng. You can find so much better... more

We included this pousada as part of a two week tour of Portugal. The physical surroundings are beautiful with a wonderful blend of the old and new. Our room was attractive and well furnished with a nice balcony that looked out over the fields in back of the hotel. Like some other travellers who have reviwed this property we were... more

Great place... basic furniture in a large room - we stayed in the old tower, better than average bathroom, excellent breakfast. Loved the pool. Dinner... we expected a better kitchen: very expensive for average quality. Paied 180 euro/room. Enjoyed the environment a lot. more

Wow! A truly amazing place and even better than we thought it would be. The hotel/castle is in the middle of nowhere but easily found. A stunning place and blend of the old and new. We had a double room with foldaway in the old castle part of the hotel. The room was light and airy with a contemporary four... more

Charming castle with a great bar and swiming pool. The tower rooms are the best... try to get one, but if there aren't any left ask for a room with a terrace. I personally thought the decoration in the rooms is quite basic but the castle is huge and it is great walking around the different rooms. Nice hotel staff....... more

We stayed at the Pousada near Crato for 1 night as part of a tour of Spain & Portugal with 2 of our friends. My wife and I had stayed at the Pousada on 2 previous occasions (2005 and 2004) and the whole experience had been superb so when planning our route we had no hesitation in persuading our friends... more
