We discovered the Ermitage on a visit to Paul Bocuse’s mythical restaurant at Collonges on the outskirts of Lyon. Looking for a place to stay nearby, we happened upon the website of the Ermitage. We were intrigued by the unusual character of this hotel located at the pinnacle of the Mont d’or.

We stayed here for one night. The primary reason we chose the hotel was its apparent proximity to Paul Bocuse's restaurant; I say apparent as 1.2km as the crow flies translates to 6km on the winding narrow suburban roads - the trip takes about 15 minutes. This is an interesting amalgamation of minimalist decoration, fifties nostalgia (old yet fully functional vintage refrigerators stocked with complimentary mineral water in the corridors), a few nautical touches and proper mod cons, such as comfortable mattresses, effective air conditioning and a good bathroom.
