On the expensive side, but you generally get what you pay for. The only thing missing was a direct view of Mt Fuji, from the room due to location/direction, but that is easily remedied by walking outside. A little isolated location-wise. Just about everything that mattered was high quality - food (kaiseiki dinner and breakfast), private onsen, room/amenities, service and... More

A most traditional experience of true Japanese culture for foreigners travelling for the first time to Japan. The private onsen within the room was very interesting. The dinner and breakfast served were excellent. Wifi is available free of charge.

Great room, great private onsen. Food was great too. Transportation to the hotel & back to the train station was by the hotel. Couldn't have asked for more. Price was steep but it's quality and class that you are paying for. Will return in the future for sure.

As one reader suggested, there are mixed feelings with this ryokan. On the one side it was very traditional (but with modern facilities at the same time) and quite luxurious (especially the meals they provide you with!) But on the other hand, the service was a little lacking, just a tiny bit. Generally, it was an overall good experience but... More

We chose the Yukari junior suite and it was absolutely wonderful. The rooms were really large with plenty of storage space, a nice lounge, beautiful bathroom and shower, and Western style beds in the bedroom. The private outdoor bath is fantastic - nice warm water (not too hot). Very relaxing. We had the kaiseki menu on both nights and it... More

I have mixed feelings about this characterful ryokan. While I'd recommend staying at one, this hotel would not be my first choice. The room was compact and very clean, but lacked any storage for our things so we were living out of our suitcases for a few days which felt a bit like camping (not relaxing). The private onsen was... Perfect room, perfect private ofuro, perfect dining and food quality. A bit too much in the middle of nowhere.looking forward to a night in the pure japanese way.good service from train station where they can pick you up. No check in before 3 pm. There is a nice meat restaurant across the traffic lights, but you can only pay in... More

This ryokan is, frankly, a disappointment. You can clearly see that the facility has been renovated. The room was amazing, with its private onsen and terrace, and a nice (but small) bathroom). We stayed there for one night, and quite honestly I would have gone crazy after another one. After we arrived, we were offered some green tea and a... More

This was our first experience of a ryokan and I was attracted to it by the reviews and private onsen. The onsenji rooms were lovely and it was a good experience but I do feel it was over rated due the location (next to a busy unattractive road) and the fact that you cannot set foot in the place until... Visited Japan in late Dec 2013 and stayed 2 nights in the Shikibu room. The room was very spacious and had the following areas, entertainment, dining/tea, bedroom, bathroom, toilet, outdoor onsen, private japanese garden. Absolutely loved the onsen especially in winter. The ryokan is located not too far from the train station and only a couple minutes walk to the... More
