It's hard to put our wonderful experience into words. So I'll describe some facts first and then return to our overall experience. This estate is located near the fishing village of Laborie, and about 20 minutes from both Vieux Fort and Soufriere. It's an old plantation/mill with a central plantation house and several cottages located around the grounds. We stayed... More

We arrived late and without baggage thanks to an airline mix-up. We were given a very warm welcome, provided with some night clothes and a wonderful dinner before collapsing into bed in our cottage (The Almond). We woke early next morning and got our first glimpse of paradise. The setting is stunning with lush tropical vegetation, the ruins of an... More

Turn-of-the-century elegance run by a very friendly family in a prime location. Fantastic estate grounds with paths to the coast. Good swimming beach a few minutes drive away at Labourie. Possible to self-cater, or Uta & Verena will whip up something for you in the evening. Few mod-cons, bring your insect repellant.

We spent the day roaming around this lush green plantation-far from the tourist crowds and noisy cities of Saint Lucia. When the rain came down in droves we were invited into the French Colonial Plantation house for a coffee on the wrap around -supremely filmic, porch. I felt as if we had stepped back in time, although the German owners... More

We were utterly charmed from the second we arrived at Balenbouche. This elegant, ramshackle estate seeped with its treasures and history makes you feel like you have stepped into a timelessness that is a joy to explore. Running Balenbouche is an intelligent, passionate and gifted family (Utta & her two daughters Verena & Anitanja) whose hard work and dedication shines... More

The Balenbouche estate – it is beautiful, full of history, and lovely as described below. During the day and evening. Indeed the house and grounds are lovely and I was made to feel so welcome by the hosts and other guests staying at the Balenbouche during my stay. The food is very good, all beautifully home-made, tasty, and satisfying. The... More

I have always wanted to write a review of Balenbouche, as I have never forgotten my stay there, even though it was only for a few days. The house and grounds are gorgeous, the hosts are wonderfully nice, the food is excellent, and they can provide vegetarian meals. I fell in love with their dogs, who made me feel right... More

With Balenbouche it does seem to be a case of "horses for courses". The web-site sums it up quite clearly in its "Is Balenbouche for you?" section. True, there are insects and other creepy crawlies and the mossie nets take some tethering down; true, restaurants are few and far between in this part of the island (go to Debbie's when... More

We stayed for a week at Balenbouche in January before driving up to the very different touristic experience of Cap Estate in Rodney Bay. Balenbouche has an incredibly rich heritage, initially starting off at 2000 (!) acres a century ago but now down to 74 acres and run virtually single-handed by Uta the very charming and clearly stressed-out owner. It's... More

My fiancé & I chose Balenbouche Estate for our destination wedding, pretty much based on the sparkling reviews we saw here. Balenbouche Estate (namely Uta, Verena and Anatanja, who run it) exceeded all our expectations and made our wedding and our stay in St. Lucia simply incredible. We brought with us a group of 17 (staying at Balenbouche), plus 17... More
