We had moored our boat in the next village but not found a restaurant to our liking and so had phoned the Hostellerie da la Fontaine to see if they had a table free and to ask if they could arrange for a taxi. Their answer was yes to both. In fact our 'taxi' turned out to be the chef!... More

We had dinner in June. I can only repeat what some of the previous reviewers have said. The whole dining experience was wonderful. Perfect table settings in a charming setting. My Wife and I had lunch there today having been there several times over the past 5 years. The meal is made into an occasion by the owner and head of the family who is charming and welcoming. The setting is an old wine cellar, well spaced tables yet cosy. The presentation of the meal was spectacular--simultaneous unveiling of all plates and each plate was perfectly oriented before the patron. Everything about the meal was excellent but the cheese trolley--a weakness of mine--exceeded all expectations. This is an absolutely charming restaurant (I did not stay in the hotel) in rural Burgundy. You must try the cheese plate. Yes, dinner will be delicious. Yes, the wine list is quite nice. Looks unimpressive from the street and sits in a pretty, old but otherwise barely-worth-stopping town on the canal and river Cure. It's on the train line (local train from Auxerre).
