This place is run down and smells faintly of boiled cabbage. It is also oozing with character, so as long as you set your expectations accordingly it can make for a pleasant stay. It's well located, quiet and fairly priced. I had a room overlooking a leafy courtyard away from the city bustle. The bed linen was clean and while... More

The hotel is really rundown. The rooms were satisfactory. There was a bad smell in the lobby. The room was on the third floor and there were no elevators. The Air Conditioning was good. The shower was a hand held. John's restaurant was just downstairs and had excellent western food at low prices and good service

We stayed at Seman Hotel a long time while waiting for our package that would arrive there. The only reason stayed there and kept staying there is because it is the cheapest option for a double room with a private bathroom. There is however nothing athmospheric about this hotel. We stayed at the right side of the hotel. The room... More

A good surprise as I read some averages advices about this hotel. I slept on the left side of the hotel, near the cafe, closed at night. The bed are ok, the room not big but,so quiet. It is possible to catch the wifi from the cafe from some rooms. The only bad thing is the bathroom which need some... More

On first glance, most Western travelers used to 3-4 star accommodations may be a little taken aback at Seman Hotel's shabby front and slightly dirty bathrooms, but after your first night here, you may be grateful that you're living here instead of one of the other hotels in Kashi's Old Town. Seman Hotel has a lot of character, unlike some... More

The best thing about the Seman Hotel is the decor -- each room has very interesting plasterwork on the walls and it is nice to stay in a place that has a bit of local flavor. The second best part is the presence of John's Cafe right there on hotel grounds. We visited Kashgar during Ramadan and it was impossible... More

Ok, much has been sai already about this most unusual hotel, so there is not a lot I can add, just my slant on things. We travelled across China 17 years ago so know all about crap Chinese hotels, fortunately the standards are lifting, but not everywhere. I must say that if it were not for our wonderful dealings with... More

My husband stayed there for a total of 3 nights. We stayed in the 'hotel' portion of the hotel. (There are dorms - Building 1). The hotel room was a part of the Discount Silk Road Package offered by Old Road Tours. From the perspective of someone who has travelled through China, the hotel doesn't offer much. The beds are... Reality is quite simple.... in Kashgar there are not many good level hotels or touristic structures in general. Simply due to overall situation in Xinjang. So you find yourself in places like Seman hotel, a former Russian consulate that looks like an horror movie set... rooms and hallways are old, dirty and run down. The baroque decoration that is left... More

First thing to note is that hotel is Uighur (the ethnic minority who are actually the majority in Kashgar - for now) owned. The Chinese government makes it extremely difficult for Uighur people to own foreign tourist businesses - so staying here helps the Uighur. Re the hotel, given that foreigners are only allowed to stay in a couple of... More
