We stayed two nights in Carnavon Dale, we arrived arround 2pm and started with a nice light lunch next to the pool. Around 3pm we started our first game drive in the Amakhale GR. Amakhala is a very pristine GR with lush landscapes. Together with our guide Dwayne we managed to see Rhino, Lion, Giraffe and many other species. In... More

We have loved our experience We really felt like we had a good taste of life out with the wild animals We touched on the history of life as a settler in South Africa And we traveled the countryside with an experienced guide who patiently and very knowledgable answered all our questions and safely navigated us through lions, cheetahs, water... First of all as a Rhino lover, 40% of profits from this lodge go to protecting the Rhino.(only 1500 Black and 100 White Rhinos have survived the slaughter by poachers), If that's not enough by itself, read on. This authentic South African Ranch is run by fifth generation South Africans who have a wealth of information on the country and... More

This is not a holiday for people who like to sit and do nothing. We had a discounted winter rate, and yet had two game drives each day, a bush walk and very special to Carnarvon Dale, two trips into Shamwari, which is next door, where we saw lion and cheetah. Roger also organised a morning trip to Addo with... More

We actually stayed in July 2011, just getting round to updating our reviews! As it was winter, we had the place pretty to ourselves. We stayed in the cottage, which was very pleasant, though slightly cold at night. We had great meals with Roger in the evening, he explained how the reserve came about and plans for the future as... We chose this lodge because it was more affordable than Shamwari but includes the Shamwari game drive. We had the lodge to ourselves and consequently we also had the jeep and rangers to ourselves! The accommodation is clean and comfortable and is the host Roger's family home, being originally a dairy farm. Roger used to teach history so was very... More

My wife and I had the most wonderful time in Carnavon Dale. Roger the owner of the lodge we stayed in made our stay special. Not only was he very informative on the nany animals on the reserve but he was also a good host. Beautiful building, very private and staying true to its period roots. We stayed 3 nights.... More

Our hosts Roger and Maryan were great company. Roger's quite happy to chat about what you've done and seen during the day as well as any other topic that comes along. The lodge was as we'd expected from the reviews we'd read. It's an old lodge with 2 bedrooms, each with en-suite shower rooms and a communal sitting room. We... More
