We stayed at Carnavon Dale for two nights in January 2016. Our hosts Roger and Maryan went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. They were excellent hosts with a wealth of information about the area. The meals were delicious and they even catered for our vegan daughter. The accommodation was comfortable, clean and appropriate to the style... More

An authentic and comfortable place to do safari in Amakhala. Roger is a friendly host and the rangers are absolutely great. We spent only 2 days but the experience we made is unforgettable, not only for the unbelievable encounters we made with the wild life but also for the cultural exchanges we had and the many interesting things we could... I read a lot of reviews before booking, but I am sorry to say we were disappointed. The Game drive is excellent and the hosts are very welcoming, but the accommodation is very basic, if you don't mind that, then this is the place for you. We were travelling with my son, so they were not impressed with the accommodation.... More

As an owner I am really disappinted when our guests are disappointed. It costs a lot of money to travel here, let alone stay here. So, my apologies are in order. Both rooms had been occupied the previous night and cleaned but clearly not well enough. This has been raised with staff and needs to be improved, especially the bathrooms,... More

The accommodation is an old colonial style property with period furniture. It's like being in an era gone by, but it is very clean and comfortable. Roger was a great host and organised our stay perfectly. He's extremely knowledgeable and very talkative and kept us entertained at meal times. You will learn a LOT from him. His wife Maryan cooked... More

We stayed 3 nights at this nice and cosy lodge. There was only the 2 of us during our time there and we pretty much had the whole lodge to ourselves. The game drives to both Amakhala and Shamwari game reserves were pretty fun and enjoyable. We managed to see four of the "Big 5" in the game reserves -... More

Carnarvon Dale is an old colonial farm house which retains the character of colonial times. Guests, a maximum of four, stay in a separate building with two bedrooms and a sitting room all furnished in traditional style. It is comfortable and the rooms have private facilities. There is a lovely all round veranda too. Staying for two nights at this... More

We loved our stay at Carnarvon Dale. The bush drives/walk with very knowledgeable guides were excellent, we saw lots of different animals (rhino. elephant, lion, cheetah, giraffe... many more) and learned a lot about them, beautiful landscape. About the place I especially liked that it is a genuine place, an old ranch, with a lot of history. Roger (the host... More

We stayed two nights in Carnavon Dale, we arrived arround 2pm and started with a nice light lunch next to the pool. Around 3pm we started our first game drive in the Amakhale GR. Amakhala is a very pristine GR with lush landscapes. Together with our guide Dwayne we managed to see Rhino, Lion, Giraffe and many other species. In... More

We have loved our experience We really felt like we had a good taste of life out with the wild animals We touched on the history of life as a settler in South Africa And we traveled the countryside with an experienced guide who patiently and very knowledgable answered all our questions and safely navigated us through lions, cheetahs, water... First of all as a Rhino lover, 40% of profits from this lodge go to protecting the Rhino.(only 1500 Black and 100 White Rhinos have survived the slaughter by poachers), If that's not enough by itself, read on. This authentic South African Ranch is run by fifth generation South Africans who have a wealth of information on the country and... More
