My wife and I visited Tarata in October of 2010 (no chance to select that date - sorry). Although it was not the best time of year for fishing, Stephen and I had 2 fantastic days on the Rangitikei. I really enjoyed visiting with Steve and he is superbly skilled at rafting and fishing. The accommodations are exquisite and the... More

Tarata Fishaway is a great B&B! Our family stayed here for 2 nights after completing the Tongariro Alipine Crossing earlier the first day. We used our time here mostly for rest after that tough hike, and boy was it worth it! They don't advertise about the drive in, but it's already beautiful! About 15km off the highway, you cross over... More

An outstanding days guided raft fly fishing today with Steve and Brierley. Many fish on the bank. Steve is an outstanding guide who is lucky enough to guide on a world class trout fishery. He knows the names and addresses of every fish in this sensational river and works hard to ensure every client has an outstanding day. Thanks!!

We stayed for three nights, including my wife's 50th birthday. The river retreat is such a lovely place to unwind and relax. Especially the spa pool just at the edge of the cliff. Sitting in there under the stars at night time with a glass of red is truly magical. But also the tree house has just magnificent views into... More

The 2 nights spent in this lodge were a gift from friends. I chose to do little with the possibilities available but I did enjoy much needed sleep and no distractions from internet, cell phones and the like. I also joined Stephen (owner) in his home to watch the All Blacks play South Africa (on Sky) I recommend this place... More

This place is magic. Cosy and comfortable. The perfect retreat. We spent ages in the outdoor hot tub listening to the birds. The hosts are freindly and nothing is a problem. The surroundings are beautiful.

We absolutely love this place - top quality in an amazing location. If you need to blob this is the place to go. If you want to go for a helicopter flight it can be arranged for the pick up right here. We stayed a night in the bush with chopper drop off and pick up then came back to... More

Charming. We arrived late, and the proprietor (I forget his name) had a hearty meal ready that his wife prepared. My husband and I drank some wine and danced to old records before bed. A lovely honeymoon memory that made us want our own record-player back home. In the morning we awoke to a misty gorge. The proprietor took us... More

The standard advice when tarevlling New Zeeland seems to be: "don't pend to much time on the North Island". This is a shame, as many risk not getting the chance to visit Tarata Fishaway. This wonderful family run establishment is set in stunning environments, with views that take your breath away! On top of this, the home cooked meals are... More

Ten of us stayed in the tree house for four days over Christmas. We had a blast! Amazing views out our windows of the Rangitikei gorge. The kids loved the activities: mini golf (not the usual), magic carpet ride, skeet shooting, river rafting, trout fishing, sheep shearing, goat feeding and the highlight…possum hunting. Steve and Trudi were gracious hosts and... More
