We absolutely love this place - top quality in an amazing location. If you need to blob this is the place to go. If you want to go for a helicopter flight it can be arranged for the pick up right here. We stayed a night in the bush with chopper drop off and pick up then came back to... More

Charming. We arrived late, and the proprietor (I forget his name) had a hearty meal ready that his wife prepared. My husband and I drank some wine and danced to old records before bed. A lovely honeymoon memory that made us want our own record-player back home. In the morning we awoke to a misty gorge. The proprietor took us... More

The standard advice when tarevlling New Zeeland seems to be: "don't pend to much time on the North Island". This is a shame, as many risk not getting the chance to visit Tarata Fishaway. This wonderful family run establishment is set in stunning environments, with views that take your breath away! On top of this, the home cooked meals are... More

Ten of us stayed in the tree house for four days over Christmas. We had a blast! Amazing views out our windows of the Rangitikei gorge. The kids loved the activities: mini golf (not the usual), magic carpet ride, skeet shooting, river rafting, trout fishing, sheep shearing, goat feeding and the highlight…possum hunting. Steve and Trudi were gracious hosts and... More

We were fortunate to stay 2 nights at the River Retreat and were drowned with amazing views. Steven with his unique sense of humour, shared stories with us and made us laugh. We had a barbecue at the patio of the River Retreat and soaked in the hot tub afterwards. Very romantic place to stay and would recommend to anyone... More

We stayed at the River Retreat for two nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We stayed at this place because we needed somewhere close to the Gravity Canyon Flying fox/bungy centre. This is just 6kms (down a gravel road) from there and it had good reviews on trip advisor. The river treat is a beautiful little cottage with both indoor... More

We have had a fantastic couple of nights at Tarata - we do not fish but just enjoyed the relaxation, soaking in the hot tub, some walking. We did not tackle the walk to the river but Stephen drove us down and back - well we are getting older. We loved the farm animals, the Labrador puppies, the St. Bernards,... More

We were originally booked as volunteers for DOC to walk a trapping line over 2 days and this place is near we would come out of the bush so thought a couple of nights here would be fantastic. The DOC work fell through (due to funding) but we decided to come here anyway and well we didn't regret that decision.... More

I have just spent my fourth time at Tarata and loved every minute of it. A true kiwi experience with great fishing, superb guide and hosts. I cannot recommend this place high enough as I get a lot of fishing but this is and remains my favourite spot. Thanks Trudi and Stephen for a tremendous three days of fishing, food... More

We stayed with Trudi and her family after Christmas and have been meaning to review it since. I can't say enough good things about the "honeymooners" lodge our family stayed in. Great value and an awesome cottage in a great setting. Really liked the spa on the deck with the river view, and the morning walk down to the swimming... More
