Outstanding weekend, Tarata is a beautiful gem that will always hold warm memories for us. Can't wait to return and share the heaven again. Awesome hosts (thank you Trudi and Steve), fantastic location and incredible accommodation!! Highly recommended. 😀💝😀

This one of those hidden gems in the North Island if New Zealand. Stunning scenery from a cosy retreat with a lot of detail and care put in it (turntable with a lot if oldies rock classics included!!) The experience of enjoying the private hot tub outdoors in the middle of the nature was quite unique. Very friendly owners as... More

From the perspective of a keen (read fanatical) fly angler Tarata is heaven on earth. Not only is the accommodation very comfortable and well appointed, but to have a world class trout fishery a stones-throw from the jacuzzi is almost too much! I highly recommend an accommodation and guided fishing package and even if you arent an angler Tarata sums... More

Tarata is in the middle of no place in a sparsely inhabited part of North Island - part of its charm. On the recommendation of our travel guide, Veronica, the wonderful owner of Aroha Luxury NZ Tours, we stayed for two nights on our two week North Island tour at Tarata. Veronica had made sure that we knew that this... More

So Glad you had a lovely time. We loved having you. We really enjoyed the picnic down by the River after your rafting trip. Thanks for a great review. Look forward to your return. :) More

We have stayed at Tarata Fishaway twice now (within a month) and we will definitely be back!! The first time we stayed in the River retreat which is just amazing. It’s nestled in the bush with beautiful views over the hills and down to the river, and the spa pool on the deck looking out is just divine. Sitting in... More

My wife and I were on a self drive trip and needed a spot to stop between Rotorua and Wellington. Our trip planner picked this location because we said we liked the outdoors and nature. Don't give up ... it some 15km after you leave the main road. We only were passing through but really enjoyed the rustic tree house... More

My wife and I visited Tarata in October of 2010 (no chance to select that date - sorry). Although it was not the best time of year for fishing, Stephen and I had 2 fantastic days on the Rangitikei. I really enjoyed visiting with Steve and he is superbly skilled at rafting and fishing. The accommodations are exquisite and the... More

Tarata Fishaway is a great B&B! Our family stayed here for 2 nights after completing the Tongariro Alipine Crossing earlier the first day. We used our time here mostly for rest after that tough hike, and boy was it worth it! They don't advertise about the drive in, but it's already beautiful! About 15km off the highway, you cross over... More

An outstanding days guided raft fly fishing today with Steve and Brierley. Many fish on the bank. Steve is an outstanding guide who is lucky enough to guide on a world class trout fishery. He knows the names and addresses of every fish in this sensational river and works hard to ensure every client has an outstanding day. Thanks!!

We stayed for three nights, including my wife's 50th birthday. The river retreat is such a lovely place to unwind and relax. Especially the spa pool just at the edge of the cliff. Sitting in there under the stars at night time with a glass of red is truly magical. But also the tree house has just magnificent views into... More
