Its a good 3,5 hr drive by car to get there from Turangi. The road is good and the approx. 3km it's a gravel road. There is plenty of parking outside the lodge. We had a family room; room has carpet and is in need for a very very good clean, I have a mild form of astma and had... More

Hello Michael Thank you for your review. I have taken up any issues you raised over the warmth of the main Lodge with evening Lodge staff. I expect there is some difference between what is viewed as warm for someone from Indonesia and someone from NZ. I am surprised to hear that you got lost getting to the Stables. It... More

I went there by myself and staid over night in one of the double rooms in the main building. The venue is out in the green in a valley next to the river. The main house with the kitchen, dining and hang out area is like from a flim set up with the fire place in the middle. Very cosy!... More

Came here with kiwi experience, loved it! the lodge felt so homely, the bed was really comfy, kitchen was a bit small but there is food to buy, showers were nice even though they were outside and it was a little cold at the time of showering, would recommend to anyone. More

Over the past 6 years, I have spent approximately 100 days at River Valley and feel I am in position to offer a unique review. Rooms - I have spent many nights in the various available types of accommodation. I have camped, stayed in the bunk rooms, the family room and each of the private rooms. Every room is clean,... More

I came to River Valley on the Kiwi Experience. People had said to me to only stay one night (because there was not enough to do- what a lie!), but I was exhausted and my friend and I decided to stay two. Luckily we did, because I thought River Valley was amazing!! I paid a bit extra to stay in... More

Kia ora AussieTraveller Thank you for the very positive review. Though by the sounds of it you did not hop on a raft or horse, it is great to hear that you had such a great stay. Brian More

What an amazing place!! With accommodation to suit everyone, home style meals and stunning river side scenery - its got something for everyone. This lodge runs all sorts of activities (again with something for everyone), if you're up for white-water river rafting, horse trekking, bush-walking or even a small round of golf - its all here with a spa or... I stayed in the hostel with the Kiwi experience. Be warned you will be getting up close and personal with you fellow travellers if you stay in the hostel. The "Spooning room" or "Orgy Room" as they are nicknamed are indescribable. Best way I can explain it, imagine 12 mattresses all on one large piece of wood next to each... More

Kia ora Adamirish Thanks for your review. Out of interest, the rooms you stayed in are modeled on a typical new Zealand back country hut. River Valley was never built as a backpacker hostel, rather it's roots are in adventure, particularly on the river and on horse back. That is the whole reason the Lodge is where it is and... More

Stayed at this place August 2011 while doing a work exchange at the bliss stick kayak factory nearby. Great Staff, Great Food, in the middle of the winter so was very quiet and cold! Food was awesome :), staff were more than willing to share their knowledge of the area and help me get out to catch my flight after... More

We stayed here lately as a couple. Our river side room was gorgeous, and the location really is stunning... just be warned that the roads are truely treacherous getting here. When you feel like your have gone too far along the road... keep going, its ages away!! The staff were almost patronising to our response when we innocently asked had... More

Stayed at river valley with the kiwi experience so hadn't chosen this lodge but was very pleased that someone had chosen this place for us! The surroundings are beautiful, so peaceful. Would recommend using the 'flying fox' across the river and hiking up the hill to a point which has a sign to say you climbed all the way to... More
